Re: Best price for 25kg sacks of grain?

If you're able to collect Digby I can order some in for you here at Wibblers, drop me a PM. I can beat the £40 a sack price easily......£39.95  Hi folks, I need a couple of 25kg sacks of uncrushed base malt and just checking where people are going to get the best price and service? I know of al...

Re: What happens if you overfill a bottle and don't leave a

Great post. On the flip side don't underfill a bottle or you'll get the opposite effect to overfilling. If you're unsure how much to fill a bottle there wil usually be a number around the bottom of the bottle. That's the distance in mm from the top of the bottle to 500ml (or whatever size the bottle...

Re: wilds in essex

I'm going to see if I can get some from Hyde Hall next year, they grew and harvested their first crop this year. From the bit I read Steve The Brentwood Brewery are taking the lot at the moment. From reading the article for the echo its says It is believed to be the first commercial beer to be brew...

Re: Thoughts on these hops

I'm lead to believe our yeast (ex-Ridleys) is similar if not the same as Essex Ale yeast. Albeit much cheaper if you come and collect it!

So, did any of you guys brew with these wild Essex hops yet? If so, how did the ale turn out?

Cheers!
Not wild hops no, I prefer to use the one's we grow in our own 1 acre Essex Hop Yard......If you're going to do a green hopped beer then at least use plenty of them is my philosophy!!

I've managed to con Phil out of a 5L mini cask of Crafty this week, so looking forward to trying itm when it's setled from it's journey. . . . won't get to sample the Wobbly until next August . . . apparently it's very Cherry when he tried it last month...

Re: Your favorite English ale yeast with personality?

I could be wrong, but my research indicates: WLP022 "Essex Ale" is the Ridley's strain (now defunct but still used by Crouch Vale and Wibblers) WLP013 "London Ale" is the Worthington White Shield strain WLP023 "Burton Ale" is the Henley of Thames/Brakspear Bitter strain, though I have noticed most ...

Re: Gasketted stainless heat exchanger

Here at Wibblers we back flush our HE with hot water after every brew. This will clear a great deal of any protein build up. We do a caustic re-circ once a month and a deep clean (strip down and jet pressure wash) every couple of months. I'm sure if we did a caustic CIP wash every brew we'd never ne...

Re: Help Required - Essex Gas - Alternative to Hobbyweld?

Gave Essex Industrial Gasses a try, works out much more expensive, deposit/cost of bottle is £96 - £144 depending on size or you can choose to go for £4.80 - £7.20 per month rental Looks like I will have to go with Hobbyweld - £90 initial outlay (£60 deposit + £30 gas) Bloomin' heck that's expensiv...

Re: 20 litre Franke Kegs (traditional)

Hmm, this is quite a complex prospect in my view. As has been already mentioned a keg with the 2" fitting regardless of size is designed for bright, yeast free, sterile beer. Because of this they can be cleaned 'blind' i.e. they are rinsed, causic'd, rinsed, then sterilised with steam under pressure...

I know Muntons now distribute in the USA, I can't find the details to hand but an email to Michaela (michaela.crack@muntons.com) might help.
