Re: request for weissbier recipe
Unusual recipe as a wit would traditionally use unmalted wheat, whereas a german wheat would use malted wheat. There’s a significant difference, so i guess you’re somewhere in the middle of both styles. Still, it’s sort of fine as the countries are both next to each other and it’s only the purists ...

Re: request for weissbier recipe
Thanks to everyone in this thread. Used it as a jumping off point to brew myself a Belgian Wit. One of my favourite styles, but had become my nemesis over the years. I just bought a bottle of Hoegaarden for comparison - mine has more Belgian notes, touch crisper, more refreshing - Hoegaarden seems s...

Re: Brewing alcohol free
… I've just started playing with overnight 10°C mash after reading this: http://blog.brewingwithbriess.com/cold-extraction-of-malt-components-and-their-use-in-brewing-applications/ First turned out OKish - 0.8% - amazing head and mouth feel, bit dry though. I shall be nicking a few tips from above ...

Re: Brewing alcohol free
Have you gleaned this from the Briess blog post? I haven't found any reference to burnt debris - I might be tasting it though... I gleamed this idea from 2 idiots on YouTube who did a cold mash and did not cleared the gunk from the wort. They produced 1 crap beer that was burnt and declared this a ...

Re: Brewing alcohol free
Just found this http://jonscrazybrews.blogspot.com/2017/03/non-enzymatic-mashing-aka-cold-mashing.html where he suggests you do do a 60 minute rest at normal mash temperature before the boil. They do talk about conversion in the original link, surely this makes sense? That's what i did, well 45 min...

Re: Brewing alcohol free
From what I gather you want to mash at 10C for 60 to 90 minutes. A normal 1050 sg recipe should produce a 1010 /1015 sg from this. You would then need to filter it well as the debris will burn in the wort when you boil it. As you bring up the temperature some of the enzymes will kick in and start c...

Re: Brewing alcohol free
I've been thinking that I need to shift my grain bill more towards PeeBee's suggestions. Then half it, compared to my "1.050" grain bill. Cold mash, hot mash, carry on as usual... Hops do need a bit of consideration, I pretty much whirlpool all my hops, but there was very little hop character in my ...

Re: Replacement elements
The ULWD ripple elements are slightly better in my experience if you can pony up the extra. Zero scorching making them easy to clean with just a wipe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro I like the look of those. Do you run them off a 13amp plug? I like using 10amp, leaves a bit of headroom...

Replacement elements
My kettle element died during a brew last week, managed to finish off in the HLT. HLT element is looking pretty gnarly too. I've got 6 or 7 years out of them. They were Tribune S6212 elements (DIN25?) - I'm not sure they were actually stainless. I used a 32.5mm QMax, and a 1.25" backnut. So ideally ...

Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast
I'm just sampling a beer made with US05, after 6 or 7 brews made with Crossmyloof Ale yeast. It's like meeting up with an old friend. The previous brew, an APA, I managed to tame the Crossmyloof. I used gelatin, and cold crashing, and after 3 weeks, in the keg it finally lost that yeast bite. The US...

Re: Crossmyloof Brewery Dry Yeast
I've done a couple of brews with the US Pale, I bought one of their 125g bags. I'm not convinced yet, seems a lot less flocculant than US-05
