Re: Grainfather High Performance Cleaner

First clean I used PBW (I think the HPC is just rebranded PBW). Now I use oxi with the temp set to 55c for most of my cleaning. Every 4-5 brews I return to PBW as it does give a better clean.

CO2 in Dunfermline

I don't drive and currently live in Edinburgh where I can walk to a fire extinguisher place and get my FE refilled. I'm doing the typical Edinburger thing of moving to Dunfermline soon as I'd rather buy a 4/5 bed house than a 3 bed flat above a kebab shop. Is there anywhere I can get my extuinguishe...

Re: INTRODUCING: Seymour Citra Dark

I usually have this on tap. Starting to run low so I must brew it again. Last year it took me ages to hunt down the citra as it was in short supply.

Opal, WTB or substitute

I can't find opal anywhere for sale and have a recipe (Oktoberfest) that calls for it. Does anyone know where I can buy some and if not what would be a good substitute. Or a good oktoberfest recipe that uses easy to find hops (all grain).

I might be moving to Dunfermline/Dalgety bay in a few months, so I'd be interested if I do.

Re: chocholate chipotle stout?

Get hold of a bottle of Tempest's Mexicake. Not only is it an amazing beer, there is a recipe on the side. It's not quite complete as it just lists malted barley without any idea of the type.

Re: Keg Set Up Questions

Cornies and crusaders take different fittings in terms of the gas and beer connects. Cornies have a removable lid that allow you to get your hand inside. Crusaders have a spear which I think it too small. One c02 tank can serve multiple beers, you either need a manifold (all at the same pressure) or...

Re: how to upgrade

Change the valves to s30s and use the big Hamilton bard canisters. It's something like £20 deposit and £5 refill. Your LHBS should be able to set you up with this if you take the lids with you. Im not familiar with those barrels but you might be able to change the taps to something better.

Re: BrewPi Help

For the beer temperature probe I ended up using red silicon ones fro the netherlands. They're more expensive, but they'll actually fit in the thermowell. The black ones from china aren't always 6mm like they say (I bought 3, one was 6.2, one was 5.9 and one was 7mm). The 5.9 will only fit in as far ...

Re: New Grainfather owner

I place the cf to the side of the grainfather rather than on top. After pumping the hot wort through the cf chiller back into the gf for 5 mins I give the wort a damn good stir to create a whirlpool effect and then leave for 20 minutes so the break and hop debris settles in the centre. I have a lot ...

Thermowell help

I'm looking for a thermowell, ideally 300mm long so I can drop it in from the top to avoid drilling out the fv sides, that will fit the pre-wired DS18B20 probes common on ebay. They say they're 6mm wide but they won't fit into a 6mm hole I drilled (7mm is fine) and I've just sent back a thermowell t...

Re: Recipe help for Citra Hops

need more than 100g of citra for Seymours recipes... they are good though. Dry hopping a Citra Dark at the moment. Not for the citra gold, i make that only 38g of citra. The dark one has a massive dry hop though I stand corrected, I recall it being a big hitter when I brewed it. It's a cracking bee...
