Well yes & no. It's that type of barrel but it was bought new so it's never had any chutney in it. Won't buy a used one again since the first one I bought which had been used for pickled garlic
Big old shop 'Special Brew' fridge makes a big, flexible fermentation fridge, that's a 60 litre barrel in there. Unexpectedly this was £30 from a halal butchers (they'd turned the Special Brew sign around. Big larder fridge as a Kegerator, hold 4 kegs with a shelf for bottles. https://uploads.tapata...
Think about what you need from your regulator. If you're just going to use it to carbonate cider you could just have a single regulator like this https://www.lovebrewing.co.uk/magento/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/650x/040ec09b1e35df139433887a97daa66f/c/o/cornelius_regulator_1.jpg Then split t...
Too late if it's in bottles now, but a bit of precipitated chalk is good for reducing the acidity which helps with the sharpness.
For this time a bit of apple juice in the bottom of the glass before pouring will help.
For me Oakham's Citra is just a heavily hopped Golden Ale or Pale so there's loads of kits that would do the job. For example from this page the Golden Ale would work, but probably so would the NZPA or the APA. If you brewed the golden ale kit, used DME or Liquid Extract instead of sugar, got 100g o...
You could add Citra Hops to almost any hoppy pale ale kit - boil half in water for half an hour and use this to make your kit, then dry hop with the rest (chuck them in your fermenter after about a week)
I'd forget brew in a bag and get a fermenting bucket, once you have this there's loads of fruit cider kits. You could get a corny and force carbonate but this is investing quite a lot when you have no other kit. I'd just get a crown capper, a siphon tube, a bttling wand, start collecting bottles and...
I used to make the Boots kits from when I was about 16. Had the odd one that tasted OK, a lot that tasted pretty ropy. Not surprised they weren't great, used to ferment in the airing cupboard at God knows what temperature
This many apples------->120 Litres - depends on the apples and also the scratter/press, I got a new scratter last year and seemed to get more than I did with my garden shredder the previous years.
Seems odd as even if i turn the water down slower its not really coming back out warm if i have it going full power it comes out just as cold as it went in ! which seems to suggest its not cooling optimally Something's not right - mine comes out really hot early on in the cooling - even with the co...
