Re: Jim's Northeast Brewer's Night.

Crown Posada is my favourite Newcastle pub. Please note if travelling by train as I do, the newish Newcastle Tap has very good pizzas should you be peckish. Good beer as well[emoji481] I had the 18'' pizza and ---let me refer to my notes---Tapped brewery Growler and Manchester Some Might Say. Then ...

Re: Jim's Northeast Brewer's Night.

I am based near Durham now and although I don't brew anymore I'd like to chat about beer and brewing. I might take brewing up again, who knows, I don't enjoy the bottling day though...

There is a beer festival in Lanchester soon, I'll be there on Saturday.

Re: Redhill beer festival 3-5/11/16

Simon brewed this solo, I had a taste from the fermenter on a racking day, good hop bite, was crash-cooled on Sunday and racked on Thursday, no finings and miles away from being murky. I will be at the festival early on Thursday in order to secure a pint - last year our cask finished off 2nd fastest...

Re: Wild Hops near Surrey-Kent Border?

Two of the places have good sized cones growing, one site unfortunately has a male hop. Also just noticed that the hedgerow across the street from The Roayl Oak in Crockham Hill has loads of cones - easy pickings!

Crockham Hill towards Chartwell, found the most promising growth so far, secluded footpath near a converted oast house.

Re: Wild Hops near Surrey-Kent Border?

Two very secluded hedgerows found, easy and safe access, burrs showing in one of them, haven't visited the other lately.

Re: Wild Hops near Surrey-Kent Border?

So far I have found a few hop plants, couple of them out of bounds (someone's garden, check out properties with converted oast houses...). One plant is growing over a wooden fence and can be reached but is overlooked by some windows so a night raid or a permission would be needed. And then there is ...

Re: taps for casks

I've never seen a cask with a threaded hole where the tap goes. We have new Crusader casks and IIRC the keystone hole has not exactly threads but sort of thread-looking small tiny grooves for grip. Actually pretty sure of that because I use a sanitiser-soaked tissue and wipe the hole and my muscle ...

Re: Wild Hops near Surrey-Kent Border?

Thanks Barneey, DA1 is a bit out of my way. First scouting today, will go for a run on footpaths near and through farms, will pay special attention to old hedgerows, saw some interesting looking leaves when driving through the area (basically country lanes between just south of Crockham Hill and Mer...

Wild Hops near Surrey-Kent Border?

I missed the fun last summer but this year intend to keep my eyes peeled for wild hops near Oxted, Westerham, Crockham Hill, Toys Hill, Edenbridge area where I do a fair bit of rambling and running. Hopefully I'll get to brew a wild green hop ale this year. I will gladly share information should I f...

Re: RECIPE PLANNING - What makes a great summer ale?

For me it's the perfect English golden ale. OG1044-1049, pale, some munich, some caramalt, Saaz and EKG for aroma. OK, some sexy and trendy hops in the end just to lift the flavour - even Cascade, or Mosaic, Citra, etc.
