Do bottles keep ok in heat?
I have to keep my bottled brews outside. No space inside. Most of them were brewed March/April time. I do keep them under cover in a side alley that never catches direct sun, and they are kept against a north facing wall. Even so they do get warm and the weather has been hot recently. I'm hoping the...

Ideas for Citra hopped beer
I had a few pints of a lovely cascade single hopped beer in the pub at lunchtime. Sadly I don't have any cascade hops at home but have some citra hops and would love to try a single hopped beer with only citra hops. Am thinking of 95% pale malt and 5% crystal malt to about 4.5% abv. And then citra f...

Batch sparging
Three weeks ago I did an SNPA clone. I batch sparge. I mash with mash water in litres at 2.5 times the weight of the grain in kilos, and then sparge twice with each sparge at 50% of the water required to make up the total amount of wort I want to go into the boiler. I usually leave each sparge for 1...

Re: Boiling wort on domestic gas ring
Thanks for all the advice folks, and the tip about keeping an eye out for cooker damage, fisherman
I'll go for a 50litre stockpot on the gas ring and see how it goes. If I'm not happy I can always add a decent element at a later date and go back to electric.
Time to order a nice shiny pot!

Boiling wort on domestic gas ring
Hi I've been brewing for a while using an Electrim bin which has worked well, but struggles a bit on the capacity front for my 23 litres brew lengths. I normally have to top up part way through the boil after some evapouration loss to make sure I have the correct amount of liquid at the end. I was t...
