Re: Stuck mash

Hello, as the last comment said it should seal around the edge of the mash tun, there should also be a space underneath the false bottom for the wort to drain through. You could try a larger diameter false bottom, split tubing to seal and stainless steel bolts to stand off the bottom. Hope this help...

The hot wort sprinkles through the top and out through the tap at the bottom and then into the chiller to lock in the aromas and flavour. There is a similar one, on that auction site at the moment but it doe...

Re: Old Beers & Brewing

Hello Edd, Thanks for the reply, i will look out for your post for Northgate ales. You mentioned Old Chester, i think that Greenhalls carried on brewing it after they closed the Northgate down in 69. A lot of people turned their nose up at Greenhalls bitter but the Original was a favourite of mine. ...

Re: Old Beers & Brewing

Hello Edd, I visited Chester archives some years ago looking for Northgate brewery records. I copied a Bitter recipe and a Pale from 1900, I can't lay my hands on them right now but even if i could, i would'nt know how to convert bushels of Barley and Wheat into usable measures. Good on you for shar...

Hello, My last 2 brews hav'nt gone so well ( off tastes ) hygene and sanitation as usual so i did a Salifert alkalinity test. It gave me a reading of .92 .33 meq/L =16.5 ppm which is different from my water company's report and Murphy's water report from some years ago. I have to confess that i used...

Tubs / Containers for hops

Hello all,
I am splitting and re siting some of my hop plants, i'm thinking of putting them in a tub / container so that the roots don't spread too far. Can anyone advise what size tub would be big enough.
Regards Dave.

Hens tooth

Hello,
For anyone interested, my wife picked up a bottle of Hens Tooth earlier today because she noticed that the whole of the bottom of the bottle was covered with yeast sediment and thought i might be able to use it. Does anyone know if this is there primary strain or conditioning strain.

Re: First time using Wyeast liquid yeast

Hello Yeast Whisperer,
Thanks for your reply, when you crop the yeast do you store in the fridge or do you time your kegging / bottling so that you can pitch straight into a fresh batch.
How much of the cropped yeast would you pitch into a 25L batch.
Regards,
Dave
