Re: AG#32 - Arrogant B*stard(ish)
Hi Boris
I take your point - in quantity it would impact on flavour and colour. I've only ever used small quantities, 100 to 200 g, as an aid to head retention, so have, on occasion, substituted Weetabix without living to regret it!

Re: AG#32 - Arrogant B*stard(ish)
Reverting back to the first posting, I read about the flaked wheat problem the OP had. I always understood you can use the ubiquitous Weetabix, 'cos it's made of, well, flaked wheat...

Hi Titch
In summary, I got the 2.0 kw Backer element for 12 quid delivered, and the shroud and silicone washer were a fiver

Cheaper Kettle Elements!
Having read (and been informed by) many postings about kettle elements, I thought I'd have a go at putting one in a spare fermenting bucket to adapt as a HLT/mash tun. Full of enthusiasm, I pulled apart an old kettle (that looked very similar to the Argos Value types). When finished, I didn't like a...

Re: Fermenting Bucket as a Boiler?
Thanks for the replies guys. When I put the element and tap in, I thought it would do duty as a HLT and mash tun, nothing more. So my post was just wishful thinking, really, driven by an exceptionally tight budget! With Wezzel the honourable exception, opinons clearly direct me to a more robust boil...

Re: Fermenting Bucket as a Boiler?
Thanks liquidman - I kind of expected info like that. Common sense really, I suppose. I'll probably head in the same - SS - direction

Re: Fermenting Bucket as a Boiler?
Oh dear - no pic?? Oh well, it's just a standard Young's fermenting bin with kettle element and drum tap.

Fermenting Bucket as a Boiler?
Hi Brewfolk Having a spare bog-standard homebrew fermenting bucket, I recently stuck a tap and kettle element in it. It's meant to be a step in the direction of AG - thought it would serve as a HLT and mash tun. Next on the list has to be a boiler of whatever type. My question is, has anyone ever us...

Re: Beer in PETs Problem
Hi Guys Thanks for the replies. Despite the repetition, I'll reiterate that I think the PETs are the issue, not the kit or the method. The Wherry was in the FV for 8 days. It was fined after 5 days, then stood for 3 days afterwards. In my previous brewing life in the 80's (brewing ocassional kits bu...

Re: Beer in PETs Problem
Hi, and thanks for those replies. I appreciate the insight that Wherry is slow to clear, so will give it a few more weeks. My experience has been that the kit brew which didn't clear in a year in PETs was Young's Definitive Bitter, whereas the same kit beer in a barrel is pretty clear in 2 weeks, an...

Beer in PETs Problem
Has anyone got any ideas on my PET issue? I brewed a kit over a year ago, racked and primed it into 12x2 ltr PETs. It wouldn't clear. I didn't use finings, and thought that was the prob. Tried it - it tasted like cloudy beer, so no spoilage organism responsible. Random collection of PETs - clear fiz...
