Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

Cheers Einbrew - I'll remember that if/when patches are needed. Just got back from the east coast. There's a resort there that's mainly Brits, so I can get Brit stuff there. It's about 25 mins away, so a 50 min round trip and I can get cans of John Smith's, to make a change from eurofizz :( I really...

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

Thanks Fil and Einbrew. I've ordered a couple of elements, so I'll see how it goes when they arrive. Good idea to put new element holes in any patches, Einbrew. Fil, don't know that you can get tax disc holders now? Shame - the ready-made ali discs are ideal

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

Fil and Simon - many thanks for your replies. That's what I needed to know. Fil, I used a 1.5" Qmax for the element holes, which I think is 38.1mm, but had to file them out a bit to fit the elements. Think I will order a couple of these to try in my existing boiler. If they leak, then plan B is a ne...

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

It will be diffy in spain many properties are 'limited' at the fuseboard to ~3kW total for the property, if you run at 3kW and turn a light on, it can trip. Yep, on a brewday I'll have to turn-off the 'leccy water heater Why is gas not an option, you can easily use a paella burner (loads of kW), th...

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

Will they have enough grunt. A typical set up is >2.4 kWh. That's why I want to use 2 x 1.5kw elements - 3kw should be enough OK, but I have 2 x 2.4 kWh and I don't think that's enough really, particularly at double the usual brew length and Winter. I'm an advocate of a lot of kinetic energy in the...

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

Not used them, but if their published dims are right the diameter of the fitting is 1.77" (45mm). if your holes are 40mm, then you'll have to widen, and that can be a pain. EINBREW. You're right, it would be a pain, and could result in an odd-shaped hole which leaks. Not clear from the description ...

Re: Leaking keg

Could simply be some grit or similar in the disconnect. If you don't have a spare, remove the QD, and rinse it well under a tap. Make sure you pull-up the outer 'skirt'. If you've just kegged the beer, why is the disconnect on it? Best not to use it until the beer's ready to be tapped. Cheers, Chris

Re: Using a Beer engine with a pressure barrel

Here's a pic: http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/q520/airymary1/MiniBar0612.jpg The Boots PB on the shelf is tapped to the BE, via a cooling pod with a recirc cooler providing coolant. The KK and budget PBs are maturing beer to be tapped in turn. CO2 from a 6.35kg cylinder out of shot behind the sh...

Re: Element help

My 60L boiler has a 3kw and a 2kw element installed. I use both to get to the boil, then just the 3kw to maintain it. Used in the kitchen with the back door kept open to draw-out the steam. There can be a breeze into the kitchen when the wind gusts that way. This slows the boil considerably, sometim...

Re: Hambleton Bard s30 dispenser

The tap tower shown in the link would be potentially unstable if it wasn't fixed to a surface. That style of tap needs to be either flush mounted to a flat vertical surface, or attached to a tower which needs to be fixed to a horizontal surface. Alternatives are a tap/OUT disconnect combo, for keg m...

Re: Hambleton Bard s30 dispenser

I have no direct experience of using kegs adapted with S30 valves. I have used S30 cylinders with pressure barrels, and currently use cornies with a 'pub-size' 6.35kg cylinder. I consider the S30 cylinders to be far too small to use with a keg system. You need to maintain pressure from keg to tap, a...

Re: hand pump and corni

I secondary ferment in my cornies - it definitely tastes better than force carb'd. Just keep a low 'blanket' pressure in the keg once tapped. Around 2 to 4 psi keeps air out of the keg, and prevents the CO2 in the beer from dissipating into the head space in the keg. Such low pressures don't force c...
