Re: EBC Calculator

On the topic of colour of the final beer, I thought this research was really interesting, on how the pH can affect the final colour after boil - http://braukaiser.com/wiki/index.php/Ho ... ts_brewing (It is a fairly extreme example though I guess, as 6.5 pH is rather high ;) See Fig 5.

Re: Kettle style lead getting very hot on the plug terminals

Yeah I don't blame the Inkbird, as it definitely got pretty hot even in an MK socket I have too. I'll now only use them for my ferm chamber. I'll make sure to get a new cable + plug from a reputable supplier. That's an interesting note about fuses too. I will inspect the HLT too, although it's just ...

Re: Kettle style lead getting very hot on the plug terminals

Thanks guys! I'm definitely not going to use one again with my HLT I'll either use a PID + SSR maybe, or just turn it on/off manually.

Kettle style lead getting very hot on the plug terminals

I use a kettle lead to power my HLT, a peco services, bucket with a 2.4kW element. This happened the other day: https://www.anfractuosity.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/IMG_5665-1024x683.jpg I found there seems to be a type of kettle lead designed for powering hot appliances. I'm going to have to ge...

Re: Maltmiller fine crush, ok for use in a mash tun, with a false bottom?

Yeah I'd definitely turn it off before adding the grain. But yes, that's what I meant. I might possibly look into either doing RIMS again instead though, or doing HERMS. As then I would be able to do stepped mashes too. " It's much easier and faster cooling liquor down than it is warming it up." -- ...

Re: Maltmiller fine crush, ok for use in a mash tun, with a false bottom?

Oh sorry I got you now, I was confused about the two figures for some reason. This has just given me an idea, since I have a pump on my HLT and Mash tun, I guess I could recirculate the water from HLT to Mash tun, prior to adding the grain, so that there is no drop in temperature while transferring ...

Re: Maltmiller fine crush, ok for use in a mash tun, with a false bottom?

That's the strike temp. calculator I used actually. However I wonder if I have a fair loss of heat as I pump from the HLT to mash tun.

I will definitely try and sparge properly next time too.

I'll have a look into 'beer engine' too thanks!

Re: Maltmiller fine crush, ok for use in a mash tun, with a false bottom?

I was wondering if my efficiency might increase. Recently I got around 1.050 OG from grain from another supplier, the expected OG was to be around 1.066. However I do know I mashed lower than I should have, only hitting around 63 C tops (I calculated the strike water temp around 71C, when I filled u...

Re: biotransformation's effect on taste?

Cestrian - I can't comment about dry hopping with a NEIPA, as I've not made one before this, afaid Regarding haze, you might find this interesting, which I found the other day - https://www.reddit.com/r/Homebrewing/comments/9wuice/neipa_ipa_from_the_same_mash/ one was dry hopped during fermentation,...

biotransformation's effect on taste?

I'm just wondering what effect biotransformation has on the taste of beer, I understand it causes haze, but am curious does it lead to more aroma/flavour? I'm kind of wondering, I was originally intending for this beer to be a NEIPA, but then I'm also wanting to see the effect of my new processes in...

Re: CRISP CLEAR CHOICE ALE MALT

I just used this malt for a NEIPA, i only just boiled on friday I think it was, but after the boil it came out very clear. Which is a first for me, however I had also added protofloc which I'd not used before and also treated my water with gypsum and calcium chloride and whirlpooled a lot too heh, s...

inkbird 308 wifi - can't seem to connect to it directly

Hi,

I recently picked up one of these, but am really struggling to get the app to connect to the inkbird wifi
without using a router too.

Just wondering does anyone else have one and managed to do this?

Cheers!
