Re: Storing my pressure barrels outside

I tend to make at least 2 cornie kegs worth of beer each brew. The first keg gets stored in the bar inside and the other is left hooked up to CO2 in the shed. I haven't noticed any off flavours in either beer. As long as the light doesn't get to it, it should be fine. Keeping them insulated will hel...

Re: How to controll the 24V mag pumps.

I have two powered from my control panel. I found a DIN mount 24V transformer. Since they're mag coupled you can restrict the outflow with a valve either on the pump or on the input to the vessel.

If you plan to fly sparge then you'll need two pumps unless your pots are at different heights.

I've had a keg of water since I got a set of taps. It's great especially if you get your hands on post-mix syrup.

Re: How to mash this Wit

I ended up having the strike water a bit cooler than I would for my 66.7C mash aim and then used my HERMS to raise the temp up to mash. Thought this might help some of the protease enzymes. Its in kegs now so not long before Ill get to see what it's like.

Re: Flavour "references" ?

There's a kit you can buy that contains all the flavours that are important in beer. It is very expensive, although it might be a good thing for the Christmas list. http://www.flavoractiv.com/drinks/beers/enthusiast-kit/

Re: AG#1 - Electric Pale Ale [Lots of Pictures]

The starting point is that I don't like the taste of the water where I live so I wanted to get a filter of sorts. Also the pipework to the brewery is quite old so I wanted a coarse filter to catch any flakes of metal/rust. As I started looking in to things I found out about 3/4/5 step filters and RO...

Re: AG#1 - Electric Pale Ale [Lots of Pictures]

I'm a few months, a few brews and quite a few pints down the line now and here's may take on things. I'm really glad I went all in and tried everything. I'm fairly sure the reason I missed my targets is the sparging. On my subsequent brews I got much better results, hitting my targets with a 75% eff...

How to mash this Wit

First time brewing a wheat beer. I'm happy with the recipe (+/- some fresh citrus peel) but was wondering if I'd need to do a protein rest or anything more clever than a simple one temperature mash. I've got an eHERMS setup so I'm happy to do temperature changes if it will help the wort! 5.70 kg Pil...

Re: Corny Carbonation Advice

First suggestion is that if you have a cornie at 9C then 8psi is too low. You would need around 19psi to get 2.7 volumes of CO2. At 8psi your beer is slowly losing it's fizz. Secondly when you force condition you don't need to disconnect the gas when you shake the keg. You can if you want but there'...

If not then there's a guy with a waterjet in Wycombe who cut everything for my panel and was fantastic.

Re: Another change to sodastream bottles?

AFAIK there are two types of cylinder. One with a thin, tall pin and one with a wide, flat pin that fills the recess. I know that people who refill the cylinders themselves can only use the tall, thin ones so it might be something to do with the pin but definitely check the washer.

Brewed a 23 litre batch, fermented in 60 litre plastic conical. I didn't have any problems.
