Re: New Braumeister Owner Questions

23L and 3L sparge is looking good for my brews that I'm doing for standard 19L corny kegs.

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter

It also strikes me that for a proper English beer you could do with something better than an "English Ale" dry yeast. While many of these products are reliable, they are not that tasty and this is really important when brewing subtle traditional English beers. Have you thought about buying yeast sla...

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter

Can't but help correct you on a couple of things BW. Its spelt BISCUIT! We're English not French! And Styrians are from Slovenia. I certainly agree with your perception of our hops though. We gave away too many from the extensive breeding program in the early part of last century becau...

Re: USA brewer looking for that "best" english bitter

Besides, I bet they have used substitute hops from Zee Jermans at some point. :D Needs must and all that. I really doubt that a brewery as large as Fuller's would not have their hop supply tied up years in advance. Besides you could possibly get away with subbing the bittering hop but not the late ...

Re: Loweswater gold

The Danish recipe looks good and I think it will be closer to the original than it will the current recipe brewing. I'm guessing they have been scrimping on the expensive American hops so Amarillo and Citra use will have been somewhat curtailed. I think I might brew that danish recipe myself... Sent...

Re: Green devil

I think that Oakham make Citra and Green Devil a bit more bitter than you would perhaps expect. Maybe go for hop additions at 60, 30, 15, 5 and flameout and have a small to modest dry hop. My Citra recipes that have followed this format have been closer to the Oakham ones than when I've focussed on ...

Re: Grainmeister

That's very impressive. I wish I could be bothered to make something like that. In the end of course I just bought a Braumeister but people who make their own (really good) homebrew equipment impress me. The best I've done is make some kegerators and adapt some equipment to use in my cordless drill!!

Re: Fumes contaminating my beer??

Well since the yeast had just been pitched, I wouldn't have thought that it would yet have an active fermentation. I do ferment on plastic yes. The logo on the bottom of the Ritchies barrel has the correct accreditation showing it is supposedly foodsafe. I suppose I could go down the stainless steel...

Fumes contaminating my beer??

Hi, I've got a spare kegerator that doubles as a fermenting chamber sometimes. I use heat bulbs like the ones you get for reptiles to provide the heat. Unfortunately some months ago, some beer line and gaffa tape came in to contact with the heatbulb causing a residue to become stuck to the bulb. Whe...

Re: New Braumeister Owner Questions

Ok, so this time I filled to 25L, drained off 2 and sparged with 3 litres. This with a 60 minute boil gave me about 18L in the fermenter BUT I was doing the boil inside this time so there's a chance it was more vigerous because of that. So next time I think I'll sparge with 4.5 litres and see if tha...

Re: Mangrove Jack Hop Spider Quality

No reply from brewbuilder. The mangrove jack one has been returned. I've gone for a slightly different solution. Speidel offer a filter that goes over the tap opening. I've gone for that one as it should be good
Quality and avoids restricting the hops.

Re: Mangrove Jack Hop Spider Quality

Looks similar to the mangrove jack one. I've emailed them to ask about the quality of the metal hoops. Thanks for the link.

Mangrove Jack Hop Spider Quality

Just got one of these today.. Have to say I'm thinking of sending it back. The mesh looks great but the stainless steel hoops that hold the shape of it together look dull and rough. It looks like it's been very badly filed at the factory. I'm not sure I'd be happy to presume that it's really good qu...
