Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

Managed to make some progress today. I tried using the small red fibke washer that came with the element but had a leak. Even when the back nut was done up nice and tight. So I used the black rubber washer, this came with the element too - no leaks! Just awaiting for a 20cm stainless disc from eBay ...

Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

I used a burco element in mine. It's a tight fit and the holes need to be off-centre as the element is asymmetric. IIRC I used a 64mm hole saw. http://www.greasley.com/files/build/herms_element.jpg Is this 40mm hole on the inside and 64mm on the outside skin? I only have a 51mm cutter for the outsi...

Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

Thanks for that fil, very useful. Does this element need a wider hole on the underneath of a thermo pot for securing?

Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

Cheers Aleman. I'm torn between going for the burco one with the large nut or the cheaper unbranded stainless one as further up in this post.

Decisions decisions....

Re: 6 litre thermo pot herms

Does anyone know what size hole I would need to drill in the outer skin of the thermopot underside in order to fit a burco element in the base? I gather the inner hole for the element itself to fit through is 40mm. I only have a 51mm holesaw for the outer skin. Would this be wide enough to get the n...

Re: 1st time HERMS difficulties

So I did my 2nd herms brewday on Friday. This time I used my newly completed 50 litre thermo pot false bottom mash tun. It was a much better brewday than I had previously. A couple of things not quite perfect though. The pid was set to a mash of 66 degrees this time. I heated the strike temp to 74 a...

6 litre thermo pot herms

Hi guys. I have a 6 litre thermo pot from Bergland that I'm planning on converting to a little herms pot. I've seen people use elements that are fitted in the bottom section of these pots bit I'm insure where people get these specific elements from? What size do they have to be? I would ideally like...

Re: 1st time HERMS difficulties

Cheers mate. Will probably do that. Would a piece of tin foil with holes in it work in a similar sort of way until I can get the bits together to build one?

Re: 1st time HERMS difficulties

That a very good point about the channelling! I hadnt thought of that. I've just completed my thermo pot mash tun and this has a false bottom. Do you think this will mean no channeling? Even if I still lay the return hose ontop of the grain bed? I'm hoping to have another brewday either today or thi...

Re: 50 Litre Thermo Pot Mashtun conversion

Thanks for the great pictures, i'm planning on a thermo hlt and a thermo mash tun in the near future , both 80l , what false bottom are you going for? I went for the brewbuilder false bottom. I have just fitted the 3 piece ball valve tap tonight aswell. I decided to grind the threads out of a 1/2" ...

Re: Help with Thermos pot holes

OK, so I got my replacement deck drain today from brewbuilder. I managed to fit everything and leak tested with a full 50 litres of water in the tun. No leaks! I did use about 10 - 12 wraps of PTFE tape around the deck drain threads though! And a nice silicon o ring on the inside of the tun undernea...
