Re: Wilkos Hoppy thing with a twist......

Hi WA Just gone back to this post having seen your 'tasting evening' post at the weekend. Decided to use the Wilko Hoppy Bitter as a base to try various additions - 1st variartion 'chilling' at the moment although had heating problems after bottling which won't have helped the finished article. Stil...

Re: Can I brew a decent lager from a kit?

Ditch - remember the dustibin lids well. First job back in the early 70's was programming when no-one had any idea what it was. Problem was it was shift work and I lived out in the sticks - plus it also played bo%%o$£s with my daily 'intake'. Packed in after a few months which was a mistake - the gu...

Re: Can I brew a decent lager from a kit?

Could well have been me that got something wrong (on the Wilko kit) - was only my 3rd brew from memory. I'll keep an open mind on the kit itself - the temperature I'm sure was a defininte issue at the time.

Re: Can I brew a decent lager from a kit?

Thanks Ben - as I thought, temperature is the key so will have to go on hold until we buy somewhere and i can get set up correctly.

By the way, can I ask about the ingredients for your Old Peculier clone - done one myself which was good but wasn't near enough the original.

Can I brew a decent lager from a kit?

The wife - who surprisingly has at least not been obstructive since I took up brewing again, is a bit of a connoisseur - put a glass of Bud in front of her and she's happy (lol)! In a bid to brew something she might like (whilst concentrating on variations of Ditch's stout and various bitters - the ...

Re: Which Hops?

Cheers Wales - another really useful link. Been reading up on the chemical elements and it all starts to make sense as to what you're trying to extract on one side and prevent happening on another. Been bouncing from bitter to stout to cider to lager (not true european lager obviously) and back to s...

Re: Which Hops?

Cheers Louis, that's perfect - particularly the hopunion link with the composition break down.

Now need to read up on what each of the components 'adds to the mix'.

Which Hops?

Certain this topic will have been covered a thousand times but there are so many threads and I haven't as yet found exactly what I need. I'm on about my 10th kit brew since re-starting last Autumn. Only the 1st brew was 'by the book' - the rest I've messed around with one way or another. Recently I'...

Amazing! Never seen any homebrew stuff in any Tesco's around here but may as well have a hunt just in case!

OK - I'm convinced!

Brew night! 1st job is to transfer the still bubbling (now day 17!) turbo cider to another demijohn (only a trial brew) to see if I can't get the bloody thing to calm down a bit - and then put on a Wilko Hoppy Copper Bitter with some additions - didn't have a Coopers bitter in stock. 3 pints of spec...

Re: coopers stout with black treacle

Stonking head Wales - how do you do it! One area I'm not happy with is head and retention although I suppose if I could stop drinking the bloody stuff so quickly and let my beers 'mature' a bit it might help. Nos - is a clue in your mention of oats? I think I've seen that somewhere on the grain brew...
