Pitching straight onto trub

I normally harvest yeast from my trub and grow it on with a starter when I need it. However, I now want to bottle an ESB (I used WLP002) and immediately use the trub to brew an Old Ale, which will be about 1067 OG.

How do I go about it?

I'm thinking of an ink bird. Which model do you recommend.
What do you want to use it for?
A fermentation fridge.

Re: How long do bottles stay sanitised?

Not with a bottle sprayer. 2 pumps and hang on the bottle tree. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bottle-Rinser-Cleaner-Steriliser-Washer-Bottles/253186710736?_trkparms=aid%3D555017%26algo%3DPL.CASSINI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3De135b2b741e141d69782c7864c6e429e%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%...

Re: How long do bottles stay sanitised?

Aah, I had one of those and broke it very quickly. I might try again as it was a quick way of doing it.

Re: How long do bottles stay sanitised?

See, I never think a squirt gets everywhere so I slosh some in the bottle, give it a shake and then pop the Star San into the next one. I'm paranoid about sanitising so I probably make a rod for my own back.

How long do bottles stay sanitised?

Once I’ve sanitised my bottles with Star San (well, the Malt Miller version) and put on a sanitised plastic cap, how long will they stay sanitised? I’m thinking a few hours or overnight at the most. I hate bottling and I’d just like to break up the jobs a bit.

Bobbytinner, did you ever brew this and if so, what yeast did you use?

Re: Hydrometer for people with bad eyesight

Aren't refractometers affected by the colour of beer? I was going to get one until I read that somewhere.

However, by filling the trial jar to the top, or overflowing, it means you don't need to look through the jar at all.
Then you blow off any excess bubbles, take your reading and drink the trial jar! :D
And then say BLM! =D>

WA
I always drink the trial jar for quality control purposes.

Re: Hydrometer for people with bad eyesight

They're all a bit small unfortunately. But it doesn't help that many homebrew ones also cram a huge and unnecessary (often combined beer & wine) range of gravities into one short hydrometer. I have a <1.000 - 1.060 one from the malt miller , the increments are easier to distinguish (a tall trial ja...

Hydrometer for people with bad eyesight

My laser vision deserted me a few years ago and, even with my reading glasses on, my hydrometer is not easy to read. I'm sure I'm only slightly above the average demographic on here, so can anyone recommend a hydrometer which is a bit easier to read.

Re: Stuck fermentation or just finished?

Thanks, Kev. I've used it before and never had it reach FG so quickly. I always leave it on the yeast for two weeks anyhow. I took another reading today and it hasn't moved. On a related topic, In March, I did a small beer using the 'spent' grains from an ESB brew (using WY1968). I only took 5 litre...
