Re: Blocked Pump !

I too have suffered many small problems but I've persevered and botched bits together here and there. I'm so used to its idiosyncrasies now that I'd struggle to go back to a BIAB setup and can't afford anything else at the moment. My pump blocked a few times at first and I emailed grainfather who to...

Re: Jim's Northeast Brewer's Night.

I've been looking forward to joining one of your meet-ups if you'll have me. Although a school night in Sunderland is a bit difficult for me at the moment as I'm in Longbenton.

Next time you meet in Newcastle I shall endeavour to attend.

Re: Mangrove Jacks Belgians: M31 and M41. Any views?

Any recommendations for a tried and tested (simple) all grain recipe for a Belgian ale with M31 would be great, I know there are huge breadths in that genre but an introductory "can't fail" would be great to add to the shortlist of beers to brew very soon. Here's the recipe I used for a quad/westy ...

Re: Mangrove Jacks Belgians: M31 and M41. Any views?

I did a Westvleteren 12 clone (all grain) with M31 and it's the best beer I've made to date, got it from 1.092 down to 1.011 which left plenty of body and flavour. I used M47 place of the standard unbranded yeast in an old bulldog lager kit I got give, boosted with a little bit of candi sugar and a ...

Re: Amazon deal on "Clone Brews"

That Japanese brewery? Great beer and interesting pod cast with Brad Smith. Or was it the Brewing network...hmmm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Aye that's the brewery. It turned out great and I'd definitely make it again. No idea about the podcast mind but if you find it, let me know please...

Re: Amazon deal on "Clone Brews"

I've done the Hitachino nest beer clone from the book (kindle version) and it was tremendous.

I bought a 25kg bag of the hook head series and it makes a cracking stout.

Re: Grainfather - first impressions

I think it's a mixture of things to be fair. I've never had problems with crush or overflow before and I've done over 15 brews in it but I got a 20kg bag of crushed minch malt hookhead series as part of some prize vouchers from the homebrew festival and I think it's a bit too finely crushed and I'm ...

Re: Grainfather - first impressions

You want to try and reverse that buckle, assemble it with the plate in situ and roll on a flat counter to see how bad it is. To get it back you could consider using a tourniquet or mounting it cowboy style and use your own weight to bring it back. Please post pics for us all as your wife catches yo...

Re: Grainfather - first impressions

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit... Anyone have problems with the top plate seal? Mine is a total PITA. My friend knocked the mash basket off a bench and it must be ever so slightly buckled near the top. I can just about manage to get it in place without knocking the seal off but it often tips and d...

Re: Any good low ABV recipes out there?

I have no experience brewing sub 3% ABV beers but wouldn't a touch of oats make up for some of the loss of body and mouthfeel? Just a little shouldn't affect clarity much if that's what you're worried about.

This article is interesting, if a bit wordy...

Re: Blackberry wine ??

Yeah but isn't that 8 litres which has the potential of 11.6% still added to a 20 litre solution that already had the potential of 13.7%. It's like astrophysics trying to work it out but I'm pretty confident it would be around the 14% mark.... then again, does it water it down? I'm now starting to d...
