Hozelock do a watering "gun" which has an integrated rose head and has a barb connector. About a fiver from B&Q, perhaps this would do the job ?

Mr Brush, excellent info - especially the tap fitting details for the coolbox. That will save me a dodgy prototype, thanks! :pink I work within walking distance of a good homebrew shop ( http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/ ) so I'll have to pop in and get the extra kit. I was also thinking of using...

Yup, had my eye on the Argos coolbox. Drill a hole through, fit a thru-pipe with tap on outside and some copper on inside. Was thinking of a stainless braided hose in a loop as the internal manifold.

What do you use to sparge ?

In a lot of UK homes the HW supply comes from an insulated storage tank which in turn is fed from a large CW tank. So the HW may have been standing around for some time and has been through a number of different storage containers and associated piping. Other houses have "on demand" HW which is heat...

I'm still thinking about the domestic boiler heat exchanger idea

I reckon if I can get one on the cheap and filter the wort before passing
through the unit then it's worth a punt :)

I'll be the Jim's forum guinea pig if you'd like :bonk

Cheers Mr Brush. That immersion cooler is excellent value at £17! May end up going down that route.... The thing which puts me off immersion coolers is the amount of time and therefore water which you need to put through them to achieve sufficient cooling. I'm on a water meter here and although w...

Cheers Reg! Yes, I've read Jim's main site and have seen his counterflow cooler. I wanted something a little easier to put together and an off-the-shelf heat exchanger a la ebay seemed like a potential solution. The main issue I can think of would be clogging of the unit with residue from the boil a...
