Re: A video of me doing it
Nice one Jimmy. Ive avoided AG due to amount of kit required, but watching you do it shows it is only like having 2 more FVs. You made it look so simple and cleared up loads of mysteries....................I'm almost disappointed how straight forward it is. I thought you guys were gods (or just a bi...

Re: CARBONATION AFTER CAMPDEN TABLETS
The splenda route seems to be the most favoured.Other options have the likelihood of fermentation restarting. Looks like that's the way im going. Thank guys

Re: Brew belts
Hi Jymbo.................I was waiting for the first fire joke! :D So to clarify for anyone new, this is a huge box and a tiny lamp, nowhere near to the sides and of course not even close to airtight. Its just enough to raise the temperature to about 22C over a few hours. It's an item most people ha...

Re: Brew belts
I've just one brew with the FV placed in a large cardboard box (almost a cubic metre) wth a 40 watt table lamp. I simply turned it on during cold spells to build up the temperature. It's then ok for 8 to 12 hours unless really cold. Plenty of room in there for bottles carbonating during their 2nd fe...

Re: BOIL YOUR APPLES?
Just did some very brief research. It seems the method you refered to is keeving..................keening is something quite different

Re: CARBONATION AFTER CAMPDEN TABLETS
I'm not too bothered about taking over the fridge................after all it IS for beer! Will that kill enough off so as not to make bottle bombs...........but leave enough to give a secondary. I'm not familiar with what happens to the yeast when it gets back to about 20C. Back to the campden tabs...

CARBONATION AFTER CAMPDEN TABLETS
I will be doing a Turbo Cider soon, but will want to stop the fermentation a little early on this one to retain some sweetness (not sure I want to use saccharine) As I understand it, campden tablets kill the yeast. I intend to bottle, so how will I get the secondary fermentation for carbonation (yes...

Re: Nettle Ale
I looked at the recipe and compared it to a typical beer. A beer brew 5 times the volume in the recipe would have on average 1.5 to 2 kg of malt and about 500g of sugar (a typical kit brew) Thats probably a good guide. For your 5 litre length, even 750g of spray malt will give around 6% ABV. As pdtn...

Just looked at the web site above .....it says use the stalks too. I only considered the leaves, maybe this will add to the bitterness

Re: Nettle Ale
My rough calculation for the fermentables and the volume you are doing will give about 13% ABV if it ferments just to 1010 FG before priming! I'm really looking forward to doing some.............I will be using about 2 to 4X the nettles and NO hops to try and stick with the stinger theme

Re: Nettle Ale
If you ensure you gather the nettles from the local park ( the bit that the dogs frequent) I reckon that could take care of your bittering question .....Joking aside, I'm watching this one, it's a brew I fancy doing. Just dont fancy picking the stingy little suckers

Re: BOIL YOUR APPLES?
"why bother".......that's the whole point of my post, really Is there any point for flavour etc, or is it just a waste of time. From what you say, Mitchamitri, it sounds like there is no point. Any knowledge on carbonating after the use of campden tablets?

Re: BOIL YOUR APPLES?
Thanks Dreadskin. I'm not really looking for a sweet cider...........just not like nuns crotch talc! As I understand the campden tablet issue, when water is treated for brewing then left over night, the gases clear and the water is able to accept yeast. Based on this I guess we coud add a little mor...

When you say "stop it" what method are you using. Can you still carbonate?
