Re: Wheat Beer fermenting slowly

Thanks for the suggestion lars, Now that you mention it substituted 500g dextrose for 500g light spray malt. Was told when I bought the kit this would only affect the flavour and not the fermentation? Have turned the belt off and will have to wait patiently I suppose! On the positive I tasted a sam...

Different breweries and different customers will specify either way. I'm not sure which I have salvaged from, but all have worked :D

Re: Working in a real ale pub...yeast out of barrell.

It will usually be fine be fine. A sample from a new barrel would be better. What you need to be sure of is that anything you get it from barrel to container must be sanitised to the highest standard. I have done it a few times, but I wouldn't trust anyone to tip it from the barrel if I gave them a ...

Re: Graham Wheeler Recipe - When to Add Sugar?

Logic suggests that as long as it is dissolved in the boil it should be fine...............it works for kit brewers with less fuss!

Harry would be really miffed if I left his dinner festering in the mash tun. It's usually still warm when I serve it to him :D

Re: Leaky fv

From what you describe, it is leaking around the seal between the tap and the FV. Any scoring would have to be very bad for it not to seal. Is it an unusually large hole? You do have the seal on the outside of the FV? Are you certain that's where the leak is? I don't understand your reference to usi...

Re: Best use of wort cooler coil

You would have to keep the ice moving or the area around the coil would warm up quite quickly and be less effective. Using that way you are basically building a counter flow chiller. The CFC has the advantage of the coolant constantly moving to carry the heat away. I would stick with a standard meth...

I would bulk prime in the bucket an add some sort of filter to your outlet when you bottle, just to keep the seeds etc out

Re: Getting the hoppy taste and creaminess

No need to apologize! Its an attachment that goes on the end of a beer engines swan-neck. it aerates the beer and gives it more mouth-feel. Not popular down south though! Because it knocks all the condition out of it and you get less in your glass  I love a head on my beer, but it needs to be ...

Re: Tesco Element Help

Mine are argos elements ....I think! I thought I had removed all the cut outs from mine until I had the same problem. I then found a sneaky one I had missed, but the reason it tripped was because of a build up of crap on the element........it only takes a couple of boils. I now scrub them to death e...

Re: Storing Bulk Open Dry Yeast

I have a tub of Youngs multi purpose dried yeast for wine and beer. I don't use it in my beers routinely, but use it for experiments with "wine" T.C. and the like. It is at least 3 years since I first opened it and it works fine. It's been sat in a tupper ware type container in the fridge and moved ...
