Re: Pics of first all-grain Landlord, and what went wrong

Heating the mash tun using the mash liquor works for me. Heat to 80-85 degrees, add to tun. I then weigh out the grains etc. while keeping an eye on the temp. When it's down to strike temp in goes the grain.

Sparging problem?

I attempted a barley wine from Wheelers' Brew classic european beers at home last week. The og should have been 1090 but somehow I ended up at 1068. Can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong. The grain bill was 6Kg MO and 3.2Kg Lager Malt. Because of the size of my mash tun and as I batch sparge, I s...

I now have the idea of washing. It seems to be getting the whole lot into suspension, with some distilled water if needed, putting in the fridge to settle out for 20-60 mins then pouring off the suspended yeast on top from the trub below. OK?

I pitched the S-04 at 25 degrees and it fermented well for three days, gravity was still 1020 so I left for another nine days during which the temp did drop, possibly as low as 12-14. I think the problem might be this temp fluctuation. Also, there was no noticable sediment in the bottles when opened...
