Heating the mash tun using the mash liquor works for me. Heat to 80-85 degrees, add to tun. I then weigh out the grains etc. while keeping an eye on the temp. When it's down to strike temp in goes the grain.

Had mine delivered Friday having ordered Weds pm. Seems OK, will have it connected in a couple of days. The probe is only about 1 1/2" long, how far into the wort do you think will be enough
I now have the idea of washing. It seems to be getting the whole lot into suspension, with some distilled water if needed, putting in the fridge to settle out for 20-60 mins then pouring off the suspended yeast on top from the trub below. OK?
Hi all, I am picking up some yeast from Vale brewery in Brill next monday for brewing with on thursday. I'm planning on using a 2l flask to collect in. Can I just leave it in the flask until brewday. Also, I'm looking to pitch around 150g into 25l of 1055og stout. Does this sound ok? Any advice grat...

I pitched the S-04 at 25 degrees and it fermented well for three days, gravity was still 1020 so I left for another nine days during which the temp did drop, possibly as low as 12-14. I think the problem might be this temp fluctuation. Also, there was no noticable sediment in the bottles when opened...
