Re: Dial thermometer + Thermowell?

I've just installed a Mashmaster, long thread thermometer on my 80l mash tun. It's a lovely, solid piece of kit but it isn't in a thermowell. This isn't a problem for me and the adjustment screw is still reasonably accessible if needed. I've checked it out against a selection of other thermometer th...

Re: AG#3 - Spudbok SmokeR

Great brewday report and a cracking looking pint to show for it :) Nice to see a creamy white head on there is their a reason for that? I suppose im used to a stout with a white head like guinness, would love to get the same results with my stouts/darker beers? ..... If you use black malt you'll get...

Accountants have been killing beer for too many years, like you say, "bugger'im".

Mad hopping, Floyd!

Re: I may have messed up the perfect 2nd brew

Glad it's turning out ok with time. It's nearly impossible to remove all the yeast, without some major filtration and pasteurizing, As said above, the finings will have knocked a lot of the yeast out of suspension and so there's a lot let to get busy in the bottles. They get there in the end though,...

Re: AG#103 Brown Ale- Generously(ish) Hopped with Bramling C

Ok... have been taking sips from the fermenter and am very underwhelmed. Blackcurrant? Really not getting any and the dry hops have been in there since Sat morning. At the minute, Bramling Cross seem like a very boring and flavourless hop! Fingers crossed something flavourful happens over the next ...

Re: French Hopped Double Brew

Well, 3 weeks or so further on and I retract my above post... It's not awesome yet but very, very nice. I will brew it again but I will dry hop just to bring a bit more aroma forward. It's there, it's just distinctly hiding in the background. Otherwise it's a nice, crisp, tasty beer. (The lagered ve...

Re: Float switch for HLT

Looks identical to the ones I got. Not sure what can stick on them really, the float is very freely moving.

Re: AG#58 - Pseudo-lambic #1

I had a bottle of Lambic on Christmas Day. To see what all the fuss was about really. It tasted of peaches. Just peaches, fizzy peaches. Not sure what all the build up mashing and what not work is all about, just to end up adding a tonne of peaches in at the end. It could have been Spar Lager with p...

Re: aramis hops?

Pretty underwhelming so far, just bottled and kegged it after a lengthy dry hop.... not much going on with it alone.

Re: copper chiller

It's also a mega hop n shite trap. I did the very same thing at first. My fix, grab the bottom coil, grab the top coil and pull it like it's a chest expander a bit at a time. It falls back on itself but not all the way.

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Ahhh right, this could be good.... The trip to the local bar turned out to include meeting a reporter from the regional newspaper who specializes in local, craft business. He's wants to do an interview and write up in the new year. Free publicity to many, several thousand folks! yay + 1

Re: mini keg storage

I've had a torch in mine and I'm pretty sure the ones I get have a plastic liner. I would avoid heat at that level. Might be different types though but something to definitely be aware of!

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Aww! First sale yesterday :) 16 bottles :) I've also been approached by two bars already as, damn my SEO skills lol, my work in progress website is now on page one of Google for a load of craft beer related keywords (french mostly but showing up for some English too) Another bar that's currently bei...

Re: Bottle Labels

I've now got a laser printer but before that i used a Kodak easy share something or other. The kodak ink cartridges contain a clear lacquer that is applied during the print. I think it says it's only splash proof but i ran one under a hot tap and the label came off the bottle before the ink even sho...
