Re: Bland, Dull, Tasteless Tea Clone
So, this is my modified brew plan for next time, can someone critique it, please. 25 Litre Batch of TEA. 4.6KG Grain Mash with 11 Litres of water. Good Stir. Wait 90 min. Re: Mould growing on my beer??
HI The only thing I can think of is that air has been allowed into your barrel at some time. Do you clean the barrels out as soon as you've emptied them or leave them for a while? Another consideration is do you add gas to help dispense the beer? If not and the pressure inside the barrel gets too lo...

Re: Bland, Dull, Tasteless Tea Clone
no its not bad as in you'd spit it out its just very very very weak (flavour) and bland. Maybe I could fortify it with something :) You could always wait till you've got your next brew ready and then sup the two of them in the same glass 50/50 as it were? You really should never tip good ( anything...

Re: Mini Mash Big Lamp Bitter
I'll try and resist it, still got half a barrel of an extract Banks bitter to finish but I'm itching to get another mini on. The "issue" of all the gunk and debris going into my f/v really just wasn't an issue at all. I don't know what I'm doing right but this stuff is way better than the all grain ...

Re: Bland, Dull, Tasteless Tea Clone
Hi I'll stand corrected by the more experienced here but you really do need to sparge till you have your FULL brew length. Most people always go way over the mark to allow for exaporation so they end up with 23 ltrs. To be honest with you I've only done one mash since I've started brewing again ( di...

Re: Bland, Dull, Tasteless Tea Clone
Would it have been better then to keep batch sparging until I had the 23l required, rather than dilute it will with water? Hi Alex If the recipe didn't call for any top up water then I'd say that you must have left fermentables in your grain. So, yes, you would have been better batch sparging till ...

Re: Taste flat!
Hi falcon. If you've only just bottled it, you'll need to give it a week or so in a warm( ish ) place to allow the priming sugar ( you did add sugar to the bottles? ) to give your beer it's fizz. Then leave it another week or so in as cool a place as you can and you should see a big difference :) Ch...

Re: Mini Mash Big Lamp Bitter
Oh my I couldn't wait could I? Had to have a sneaky little taste and I'll be............. It's really nice if still a little sweet compared to the last extract brew. It is only just over a week in barrel tho so i'm sure it'll settle out in a few weeks. The depth of flavour is quite pronounced too, m...

Re: New kit - Newbie
Hi 5hort5 Try this site, http://webspace.webring.com/people/ms/sirleslie/Customize/CustomizeCoopers.html it's for Coopers kits but you'll get the basic idea and if you have a Wilkinson's shop close by, I'm sure they have some of the Coopers in stock if you want to use them. It's really easy to impro...

Re: The trials and tribulations of kitbrewing.....

A woodefordes wherry that isn't clearing :( bottled it 2 weeks ago now, and its still as murky as the day it was bottled. so what could be the cause chaps? or can they just take a while sometimes?? 2. a stuck coopers IPA sat at 1.012 (@20°C) gave it a rouse today, so ill se...

Re: Bottle after Secondary Fermentation
Hi maltymatt You shouldn't really have a problem with single can kits clearing, I had an issue with a Wherry that didn't clear till I'd nearly finished it but it was more of a haze than just cloudy. With you having a top tap keg, you really should be pulling off clear beer after 10 days but as long ...

Re: Old King Keg
I think the best thing to do is just go for it and see how the old girl performs. There are just 2 issues as I see it..... An air leak from where the float hose connects to the back of the tap and the possibility of an upturned/wonky float. Either should show their ugly face sooner rather than later...

Re: Old King Keg
Ahhh...... Now that's a thought, just means leaving an extra week or so to clearNaich wrote:I took the float off mine as an experiment, so it sat at the bottom. It took a couple of pints to flush the crap out initially, but after that it was fine. Less frothing too.
