Thanks for the advice Oblivious, although I think that I'll try one batch with the Enzyme just to see the difference it makes. As long as no one replies to say that its either just a gimmick or it makes the beer taste like horse pish. I'll try the US-05 in the batch after this one. Thanks for the ad...

'Dry Beer Enzyme' and Safeale S-04
Has anybody got any experience with "Dry Beer Enzyme"? I'm thinking of adding it to my next brew (a Coopers lager) with some Safeale S-04 yeast. The description on the website is~ http://www.hopshopuk.com/images/shop/yea007.jpg Dry Beer Enzyme This enzyme ferments normally unfermentable dextrins. To...

Fair enough, I'll set it when I come home, it'll likely have 2 and a half to 3 weeks. My plan this time is~ a) Fit, as recommended elsewhere on the forum, a tap to the side of my fermentation bin, so i don't need to bother siphoning. b) Then make my Coopers lager kit, with 1kg of Muntons Extra Light...

Is 4 Weeks too long?
I work away from home in the oil industry, I was just wanting to check that if I set a brew before I go away that it would happily work away for the 28+ days no worries?

You're still going to get a pressure drop along the supply header. Of course your right, but the backpressure you'd get from a straight pipe is pretty negligable. If, for example, he uses 1" tubing for the Supply/Return headers then he can (if we ignore backpressure for a moment) 16 1/4" loops. So,...

Thanks guys, reading through your replies I think I might not bother with Finings with my next brew. I think I'll see how it turns out with all the other hints I've picked up here. My last brew was just bit cloudy at the bottom of the bottles, which means that although the first glass is clear, the ...

Re: Help! I don't understand the gravity of the situation!
I think, but but not 100% certain, that the SG of alcohol is lower than water. Close to 0.8 iirc.Jaoqua wrote:gravity can be high because there's a lot of sugar left or because there's a lot of alcohol in the beer.

Still planning my next brew, Question on 'Finings'
I really am learning a lot from lurking around these boards, and I feel like I'm improving/perfecting with every brew. Which leads me to my next question, Finings. When and how should I use them? I plan to keep on bottling my brew, I use the big pint Tiger Beer Bottles. I don't want to get a 'Bottel...

Thanks very much for the reply Brewzone. Another little question (I'm probably overthinking this) is, how far up from the bottom of the bucket should I have the hole to avoid drawing in all the muck? Lot's of brewers bottle their beer using a length of tubing connected to the tap that is just long e...

Fermentation Bucket, with a Tap and a Float?
Hello all, my first post here and likely a few stupid questions. I've just started (about 5 months ago now infact) homebrewing again after a good few years break, and I'm slowly building up my equipment and refining my technique. However here are my first few questions, I imagine I'll have lots more...
