I have a GF now it's great but at the same time disappointing because it "just works" it's less interesting and requires less interaction than my last home built system.
I initially interpreted GF as girlfriend and your post was entirely relateable!

That's pretty much it. It's a pretty strong smell.
Interesting - I suppose in that case I can say with confidence that I've never had an issue with it either :)

Re: Crossmyloof yeast

I will, indeed, plan to brew the same recipe, but ferment with different yeasts and taste the same recipes side-by-side with the Mangrove Jacks and crossmyloof yeasts over the next few months to see which I and friends prefer. Are you going to split the same batch of wort into multiple FVs? I plan ...

Re: Fermenting a lager

Rookie do you have a way to test? I'm not aware of any downside of doing it unless you're pushed for time. Diacetyl has a distinctive buttery/butterscotch smell. As far as I know there's no downside, but why add an additional step if you don't actually need it? Indeed, but how to be sure you can av...

Re: Fermenting a lager

Marmite - Palmer's How to Brew p102 suggests 13-16 degC for 24-48 hrs. I'm reading it in response to Rookie's comment... Palmer agrees saying it is only needed "if the pitching or fermentation conditions warrant it" Sadly he doesn't give any guidance on quantifying that! Rookie do you have a way to ...

Re: Fermenting a lager

Yes - diacetyl rest - you need to increase temperature to make this happen in an acceptable timeframe, AIUI.

Re: Beer Gas.

Hello, my C02 bottle is nearing a swap out, I went t gas U.K., and noticed they don't seem to have the UN1013 at the moment Apologies if I've got this wrong but I just want to check you're not looking for something called UN1013? This is the UN Dangerous Goods code for CO2 which might be stuck on t...

Re: Crossmyloof yeast

Yes I agree, I have found it is pretty decent stuff so far. The cost and hassle factor versus liquid yeast is much less. Like many brewers I expect, I made a switch from kits with dried yeast to all grain with liquid yeast and temperature control all at pretty much the same time, so maybe attributed...

Re: Recipe calculations.

I think Alex maybe meant multiply by 13 rather than 12!?

Other than that - I find this website useful for Brewdog clones - https://brewdogrecipes.com/

Whoever set that up has done a lot of work and you can download the recipes in xml format which loads straight into Beersmith (and others I think?).

Well without having a real one to taste side by side, I think I've brewed something pretty close here!

Thanks both for your input, interesting that you've noticed that with the CML yeast BeerCat.

Re: Raspberry beer

The Raspberry Wit in Greg Hughes' book is good, if you're into that sort of thing.

Raspberry seeds can fairly block an airlock so what out for that, especially when combined with a wit type yeast (WLP400 I think I used).

Re: Carbonating half full kegs

I do not reckon there will be any difference in gas usage irrespective of how much beer you put in the corny. It will only take a certain amount of CO2 to reach the required level in the beer. Indeed the gas used PER KEG won't change (may actually be less since you're not dissolving it in as much b...

Re: Carbonating half full kegs

Ah OK. Couple of ideas - do you know you can get mini corny kegs, I think about 5L? That would be a nicer solution and only theoretically leave you with a spare litre. No headspace and you could potentially fit both in the fridge? You could carbonate outside the fridge but you'd need to consider car...
