Gas post on a Pressure Barrel- height reduction?

I have two of the 1/2 size pressure barrels with 2" caps that I have fitted with Corny gas posts. Much to my delight they fitted into a small countertop beer fridge a happy day considering it's starting to get warm out and they're in the garage. I filled them and carbonated to 10psi with is within t...

Re: Filling 2 cornies with one Grainfather brew

Many of Graham Wheelers recipes use sugar often ordinary household sugar then there are hordes for beers that use various candy sugars and syrups.

Re: Filling 2 cornies with one Grainfather brew

You can liquor back, as a base line just calculate your hops to provide the require required bitterness in the final brew. It won't be exact you may need to experiment a little to get it perfect. As above boiled water is best, oxidation is worse in high hop batches so they need extra care. If I'm go...

Very cyber punk, but every joint is a potential source of contamination and leaks.

Unfortunately I didn't record mine, there should be a thread on Jim's if not I know AHB (Aussie home brewer) has some.

Re: 50 litre electric BIAB?

For a self build £200-300 should do it I doubt you would get close to that with a 50 litre all in one but it might depend on what you can buy secondhand. Personally I'd look for a secondhand stock pot, buy PID/SSR/PT100 bits from evil bay and house the controls in a plastic box. I now have a GF one ...

Re: The BrewTools Fanboy Thread

This lot represents the ultimate case of Shiny Fever, combined with another similar condition Gadgetitus. I like tech I'll happily admit to that but over too many decades I've seen tech applied were it offers little real benefit except to those selling it. Unless there is good reason not to or you j...

Re: 50 litre electric BIAB?

It can be done, you would need to build it, have a hoist to lift the bag and you would want a 30amp supply. A Giant stockpot, 2 low watt density elements, a basket or something to keep the bag off the elements and pot walls and your done. I'd probably want to add a tap. The hard part is mounting the...

Re: Keeping Pressure Barrels Cool.

I told you brain rot! Some time ago a relative passed me one of the small beer fridges he'd moved on to bigger things, it's too small to ferment/ condition/ or put PB in so I've just ignored it. Now he has a garage I had been thinking of giving it back but I checked today the 1/2 size barrels will f...

Re: Keeping Pressure Barrels Cool.

Sadly the Keter store doesn't cool and the grey thing although it looks good is very costly.

I should have said cheap in my 1st post.

Sorted the problem was rampant stupidity not equipment ..... 😱

Re: Grainfather - Replacing temp probe

If you don't want to open the box you will need to cut the cable solder in the extra length and probably cover the joint with shrink on.

It would be a good idea to check the calibration afterwards.

May I ask why you need to extent it?

Re: Keeping Pressure Barrels Cool.

I know about swamp coolers the max out at about 'Ambient - 5°C' and your lucky to get that.

I doubt that what I'd like exists, the convenience of a fridge but without the fridge :)

Oh well..

Keeping Pressure Barrels Cool.

I have two old 10-12litre PBs that I like, they are simple and easy to use great for beers with lower carbonation like Stout or British Bitter. However in the absence of a celler or spare fridge keeping them cool in the garage in summer is something I have not managed to do. As a result I only use t...

Re: Oxidised Beer from moving fermentator

Or don't cold crash.

Crashing is just a way to reduce the time the beer takes to clear, you could use finings wait then bottle or barrel without moving the FV.

It would save humping a bucket full down the stairs.

Re: Oxidised Beer from moving fermentator

I'd guess the beer had a lot of hops as it may well have been Ok.

If there is power out to the shed a fish tank heater and a trug of water could keep a fermenter warm, the details will be here some place.

Other than that could you fit a fermentation fridge in the house?
