Re: Bergland Thermos Pot / Thermopot Maximum Temperature.

Possibly a good boiler if the foam insulation would stand the high temperature of boiling water. I have no idea of the type of foam used in thermopots. The temperature of 80 degrees C as a max rings a bell. Very soon I am going to buy a Bergland Thermopot and convert it into a mash tun. I will be ma...

Re: Bergland Thermos Pot / Thermopot Maximum Temperature.

Definitely saw two different contributors.
I wonder if they are mixing up their jargon and calling stock pots thermos pots and vice versa ?
Cheers.

Bergland Thermos Pot / Thermopot Maximum Temperature.

I have recently seen a couple of old posts asking if a thermopot can be used on induction hobs as a boiler. One suggestion was to Weld on a mild steel plate to get it to work. I didnt receive any information leaflet when I bought my Bergland thermopot, so I am at a bit of a loss. I have a vague memo...

Two or Three Piece Taps.

I am sure I have seen the answer to this some place but cannot find it.
Three piece taps are dearer than two piece taps.
Any advantages to the dearer, uglier looking three piece taps ?
I am thinking of doing a stainless boiler and thermopot, mash tun set up.

Cheers.

Re: S30 Valve Spares

I had a gas inlet valve rubber go one Saturday night. The black, inside one, below the cap. The only spare that I didn't have in my collection was the one I needed.. After load of worrying about a barrel of possibly flat ale I came up with a temporary answer. Amongst my old coarse fishing tackle was...

Re: Persistent infection nightmare

I am not overly impressed with Starsan. I didn't brew for about two months this summer. I thought it would be a bit too hot for fermenting. Later when I opened my two King Kegs and fermenting tubs, one keg and tub were spotlessly clean. The other keg and fermenter had black mould growing in them. Th...

Re: Thermopot mash tun conversion

Many thanks for the quick answer.
I didn't realise The Home Brew Builder was Mr Lard.
I have looked at his site quite a few times, just like a kid with a toy catalogue.
Cheers.

Re: Thermopot mash tun conversion

I have seen Mr Lard mentioned a few times with regards to thermpots. Is he a home brew shop, catering equipment supplier or what ? I cant find him on the internet. I am very impressed with the conversion and pondering if I should change from my floating mash tun to a thermopot. One small picky point...

Re: Is "Southern English Brown" really a thing?

For me in the seventies and eighties, a bottle of brown was only used to try and improve a feeble pint of bitter. If the bitter was not up to scratch you drank half of your pint and then bought a bottle of Manns Brown or Greenalls Nut Brown to try to improve on the taste or fizz in your pint. If you...

Re: Help, 3 brews failed

I have drunk a few yeasty hydrometer samples in the past and each time it went through me like a sports car. I just leave the hydrometer sitting in the fermenter right from the start. You don't waste any brew that way. Also have one of those stick on strip thermometers on the side of the fermenter, ...

Re: Help, 3 brews failed

If your fermenter has a plastic tap fitted near the bottom, unscrew it and dismantle the tap. Then really clean the tap out. Make a note of the position of the sealing washers ie inside or outside the vessel before removing the tap. I made about twenty all grain brews until I read about dismantling ...

WARNING.....DANGER.......WRONG RELAY. The link supplied in the post by jmc on 30/11/2011 goes to a Maplins 12volt dc coil relay. The relay in the text refers to a 240 volt ac coil relay. Electrically two very different items. I got the moderators to change a similar link about a year back. Could som...

Re: Demijohn Rubber Bung Alternative

jimpy0 I forgot to reply to you , I was a bit carried away looking for silicon bungs. I have a few of the plastic flat sided demijohns and use them regularly for short term storage , only for a fortnight or so. It gives the brew a chance to drop clear before priming and bottling. I wont use them for...

Re: Demijohn Rubber Bung Alternative

Hello Captain F. Thanks again. I have just this minute followed your advice and ordered some from Hop and Grape. Just like a kid in a sweet shop I couldn't help myself and got a few other bits n pieces as well. I frightened myself earlier this evening when I found a laboratory supplies firm that sel...
