Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster
The cleaning process really shouldn't have taken that long. Generally speaking it takes me about 30 minutes at the end of the day. It should take a bit longer than BIAB as there is far more too clean. I try to clean things as I go, such as the grain basket.

Re: Pressurised growlers and 5l mini kegs
fwiw i rarely condition with pressure above 20psi, but i dont mind it taking a week or longer.. imho your probably better off filling the growlers from a keg, one downside of kegging directly into smaller pressurised containers is the accumulation of losses due to initial dirty pours flushing out t...

Re: Pressurised growlers and 5l mini kegs
The pressure rating seems to vary enormously between different suppliers so if you intend to force carbonate in them I would enquire beforehand about their rating. Thanks Foob4r. The ones that I have seen seem to be able to be pressurised to 25PSI, does that sounds ok for force/natural carbonation ...

Re: Pressurised growlers and 5l mini kegs
Rhodsey!!! You are full of the excellent info this evening. Didn't think to check brewbuilder, have had some excellent stuff from them in the past. Glad to hear you can serve from a tap directly in the disconnect! Do you have to be careful about the pressure you apply to them? They seem to be screw ...

Pressurised growlers and 5l mini kegs
Hi all. Looking to upgrade some of my set up and just change some bits up. Does anyone have any experience with using pressurised growlers, like the one you can attach a tap and mini co2 cartridge at either a 2l or 5l size. I have seen plenty of different types like the man can and growlerwurks ikeg...

Re: Orange
My understanding is the same as Hayden. Most people buy apple juice and then you could use a 5l water bottle, drink the water, or tip it and then add the apple juice. My results with bread yeast have been awful. I would just buy a wine yeast from Wilko’s.

Re: Mosaic Pale Ale.
It looks good to me. Running it through beer smith and it is coming up at about 40ibu. If it was me I would be tempted to change the 60 minute addition to something like magnum and up the flame out addition. I like the grain profile and often do that in my single hop brews.

Re: Admiral's Reserve
Thanks for your responses, much appreciated. I brew in our utility room which has a fairly large domestic boiler situated in it. The temperature gauge (one of those you stick on the side of the vessel) indicates a temperature of around 20/22. I'll leave a few days and, if no progress, I'll try the ...

Re: Beer line
Brilliant, thanks all. Peebee, I don't have a hand pump so no need to worry. I am going to adapt my party tap so that i can use that for the time being.
I picked up a pack of 10 for £3.50 from
eBay. I won't use them all, so if anyone is in bed drop me an email and I can post out.

Re: Beer line
Thanks Fil. So they 'plug' directly into my current 3/8 fittings and then I just feed beer line to the 3/16 end?

Beer line
I was advised to get a 3/8 to 3/16 reducer to help serve without foam. Thinking johngyest reducers were all the same I got these:

Re: Boil time
Also worth remembering that there are other things going on the boil besides extracting hop bitterness. EDIT: the above is referring to very short boils, not the 60m v 90m of the OP - that will be fine. Besides the obvious (to me) hop bitterness, increased gravity and hot break is anything else goi...

I have had a commercial rhubarb ipa before. Couldn’t give any advice on when to add, but would be interested to see what you do.

Re: VWP instead of oxyclean
@chefgage, my bad. Thought you had somewhere mentioned skin. Must have been something else I read somewhere. @sonicated, I am sure I am being paranoid. But I would rather not have to worry about it I guess , so it is easier for me to just use something else. I am sure you are right aswell. But soapy...

Re: VWP instead of oxyclean
I used to use Oxiclean, but like you it has caused major irritation to my skin. I also don't like the fact that I have to clean most stuff in the bath tub and am worried about the little ones skin as well. I decided about a year ago to go back to using hot/warm soapy water (like you), I have not had...
