Re: What's Wrong With my Inkbird ITC-308?
It didn't work as well as he'd hoped. I have a 60W tube heater I can use in my fridge. The STC1000 bounced the temperature too much if it had control of both heating and cooling. I suppose I could have experimented putting the probe in mid-air, or liquid rather than taped to the side of the FV but ...

Re: Cheap grain
Although I got used to paying a lot less than that over the years, when I started AG BIAB in 2008 I bought equipment from Hop and Grape and I got ingredients for three brews as well - MO was £1.60/Kg equivalent to £40 for a sack.

Re: Slightly hard water? No rinse sanitiser? What should I be using?
Cheap RO water is available from some Aquatic Departments. Bring your own container - 10p/litre e.g. here . I collected a couple of times from our local garden centre aquatics. After being pleased with the results* I bought a £34 RO filter and produced enough the day before each brew. * one time I b...

Re: Using Starsan
Just an update to my 2015(!) post: I ordered Videne from that link but they wouldn't supply it (unless you lie about the purpose). However I got some from Weldricks no questions asked last June. Looking at both sites, they both have supply problems. Glad I've got a virtually full bottle (and some "S...

Re: Removing Limescale from 100l pan
You might be able to find something softer than stainless but hard enough to chisel off the bulk of the limescale. Then finish off with Citric acid and boiling water.

Maybe I'll set the time format to "B" and see how I get on with that.

Re: Maltmillers Timothy Taylor's Landlord Kit
I don't think I could brew from kits as I get a bit edgy if I spot my 25Kg sack getting low. I panic-buy my next six month's supply of grain and hops and feel a lot calmer.

Re: Drum Taps
I only had one drum tap and it wasn't that great, maybe I was unlucky. My plastic bottling stick has about the same outside diameter as the lever tap so a short piece of silicone hose is ideal for joining the two. But I use a long length of hose; my bottles sit still in a crate and I move the stick ...

Re: Electricity Load Question
Check the extension cables are 13 Amp as many are only 10. It's likely the lounge and utility room are on the same circuit but you can check that by flipping switches on the CU and seeing what goes off. Don't trust any labels. Same circuit should be fine for those two draws.

Re: Brewing in a drought!!
What Jerry cans are we using? I like this idea. Malt Miler one is 20 ltr. I have a couple of 25 ltr, different types from eBay. One holds about 28ltr to the brim. Include "food" in your search to get food safe/food grade results. Since they get carried about by a handle when full, they're all prett...

Re: Brewing in a drought!!
It's less faff that a bucket. The jerrycan is my fermenter when I do no-chill. Compared to a bucket, the jerrycan is sanitised by the wort, is easier to move out of the car port where I brew, and shortens the brew day. I don't know what the beer style limitations are, if any. I'll be using no-chill ...

Re: Brewing in a drought!!
I've done a few no-chill brews and they all worked well. Hot wort goes into a plastic jerrycan which is then sealed. Next day (or next week), pour into a fermenter and add yeast. Or don't. I've added yeast to the jerrycan and used a blow off tube.
