Re: Honey Malt - What is it? Where can I get it?
It's from a maltster in Canada called Gambrinus, and it's similar to German melanoidin malt or Belgian aromatic malt (more like the former maybe) Every place I've ever read about these two malts describes them as "intense" versions of munich and while good in many beers are not that close a substit...

Re: Chocolate and sour cherry stout
I would think that sweet cherries would balance with the roasted grains better especially if you make it very hoppy.Grahamf4 wrote:This is the idea. A chocolate and sour cherry stout. As far as I have got yet but what do people think?

Re: using 3 different types of hops for bittering???
hallo everyone, recently i purchase the Wheeler' Brew your own british ale; in the recipe section i've noticed the author suggest to use 2/3 different types of hops for bittering@90min and only one type for aroma @10 min? Does this makes sense?? for example in the esb clone he calls for: target, ch...

Re: Adding Cherries to a Lager
I did a bitter kit and added 4 jars of cherries right at the start. It had a nice cherry red tinge to the colour but the taste was nowhere near. Whatever you do follow the advice here and add the fruit to the secondary feremntation. A couple of years ago I brewed a blueberry wheat for my son-in-law...

Re: Naming a beer.....
I name my brews by whatever strikes my fancy or funny bone when I conceive the recipe. Watching Prime Minister's questions with Tony Blair led to "Back Bench bitter" and "Honorable Member mild". Watching Onslo on Keeping Up Appearences led to "Bone Idle bitter". "Olde Sloppy Knickers' sounded like a...

What's your hop schedule?Uncle Joshua wrote:I'm about to do an extract brew that need 30g of EKG but am 6g short, would using some Stytian to make up the shortfall harm it?
If it were me I'd do the sub at the beginning of the boil for bittering.

Re: Using a cider yeast to brew beer
Will it work?
Yes.
Will it be worth drinking?
Maybe.
Brewing a small batch first is the way I'd go.

Re: Can you use too much yeast?
It takes a LOT of yeast to overpitch, using an extra pack or two won't be a problem.

Re: Cherry wheat beer
Well I've tried my cherry beer, and I have to say it's one of the worst beers I've made. Very dry as I feared it would be; all the sugar must have fermented out. There's a vague taste of cherry, but it clashes with the yeast which has banana and clovey notes. At least I only made a gallon. Th...

Severl years ago I saw a pineapple beer from a small brewery in Texas (I think). I never tried it and the brewery went out of business. Because of the pineapple beer? I have no idea.

Re: Galaxy Hops
What were the other new hops you mentioned when I was in collecting from you the other day Rob? Was one of them Summer? Summit, maybe? Widmer Brewing makes a pale ale with summit hops. I got some with the intent of using them in an amber ale. Glacier is another fairly new hop that is pretty good.

Re: Septemberfest
If you could get it down 2 or 3 degrees, you could use steam beer yeast with good results or maybe Wyeast german ale yeast.

Re: Adding Cherries to a Lager
Yes, if you add cherries to lager it's a proper cherry lager. The type of lager and the amount of cherries is up to the brewer doing the beer.coastie wrote:So will this create a proper cherry lager?

You can use steam beer yeast at normal lager yeast temperature.
