Re: First batch of cider

just for info, i might have found a neat work around the lack of proper pear juice ( or the aldi pear pulp problem ) but its proving a little difficult to get hold of right now - hopefully i'll have more to report later in the week :)

Re: Turbo Cider Recipes, Methods and Taste Collection.

It is if you want a rapid fermentation - could take up to a week longer to ferment out without it

IMO turbo cider is ideal for patching holes in your rolling stock - even a 5l batch will provide you with 9-10 bottles of evening entertainment, which for me easily covers a short week :)

Re: ROOT BEER

Interesting project :)

Looks like sweet root beer or alcoholic root beer are both easy to make - making one thats both is difficult ! Ferment and back sweeten sounds like the winner.

I noticed that they also do Dandelion & Burdock in soda stream syrup... that would be sweet too ;)

Indeed :) http://www.twincam.force9.co.uk/IMAGE_048.jpg Meet ol' Secondary No1 :) Standard Youngs 25l modified with a lil' Bottler and tap - I rack my primary in when fermentation has ended in the primary and leave it for 2~4 days for any transferred sediment to settle and to be sure fermentation is...

Re: Recommend a kit like Warsteiner?

Hi and welcome :) There are quite a few pilsner style kits out there - personally, I've yet to try them as I prefer darker ales and belgians myself, but im sure i'll get there someday. Brewferm do a "pils" kit, so i'll stick my colours there I think like most lagers, to get best results from a kit y...

Re: Ambroix brewferm

Better to secondary it off the trub if you're leaving it to sit for a while tho :) IMO, buying and using a secondary if the first of the "quantum leaps" you'll make at the start of your brewing career - I didnt see the point at the start but the difference it made in the quality of the brews (sooooo...

Arrange a brew-sitter (like you'd get someone in to feed the cat  ) or put SWMBO on the case ;)

Re: Can I just throw yeast at apple juice?

Pretty much, yes - the beauty of turbo cider :) 20l Apple Juice Champagne Yeast (I'd consider a tsp of yeast nutrient with champers yeast as straight juice is a little short on em) Cup of cold stewed tea (I use 4 teabags) You can then either put it in the FV as a straight cider or play with the form...

Re: Popped to the LHBS...

Decided today that I wanted a Sandwich for lunch, so I wandered to the closest supermarket that happened to be Aldi. Well..... came out, no sandwich - but 24l of Apple nectar, 2l of Cranberry and Cranberry/Raspberry mix, 2l of Pear Nectar  ( a heads up to all TC makers - Aldi Apple nectar is on...

Re: Brewferm pils vs coopers pilsner???

Im biased towards the Brewferm kits myself - i've yet to have a bad one :)

The coopers kits on t'other hand can be a little tricky - using proper lager yeast you'll need to employ temperature control as high fermentation temps can lead to off flavours

Re: Brewferm Tarwebier

Got this kit + adjuncts ready to go :) From reading around, the best quantities are 20-30g of Curacao Peel and 25g of Crushed corriander seeds but as most of the recipies are AG, i'll probably bag them and go for a 15 minute tea boil/steep and suspend the bag in the FV afterwards until the secondary...

Re: Cooling with hose pipe ban

I live in the far SE if the country - one of the worst hit places for the hose pipe bans in the UK. Currently, there is a headlong rush to build four-square shoe boxes on every inch of available land from london to the english channel... but as far as im aware, there are NO current attempts to build...
