Re: Coopers English Bitter - Modification
Thanks for the reply dude.Great recipes alright, I love that Coopers encourage kit brewers to experiment with their kits. Why is it that omitting the sugar will result in a dryer beer? (serious newbie here, sorry!) What effect would reducing the volume from 23l to 19l have? (apart from having less b...

Coopers English Bitter - Dry Hopped
Hello all. Newbie question. Planning on brewing a Coopers English Bitter which specifies adding 500g of brewing sugar (or spraymalt). I'd like to boost the alcohol to about 5% - can I up the spraymalt to 1kg with no ill effects? I also have 1kg of Coopers Beer Enhancer #1 at my disposal. I was consi...

Re: Help My Kit Has Stopped Fermenting
Hi folks. I hope someone can reassure me that I don't have 5 gallons of lemonade sitting in the corner of my kitchen... I racked my Muntons Gold IPA (my first kit) to secondary 4 days ago. It doesn't seem to have changed gravity since then - 1.018. It also tastes the same as I thought it tasted when...

Thanks Sean. Even though the target FG is 1.014...?

Re: Muntons Gold IPA - Hydrometer readings?
Another bit of info - it smells beery - very agreeable in fact. And it's also surprisingly clear.

Re: Secondary Fermentation - Was it too soon to rack?
Nice one dude. That's some great reassurance! :) So, the trub at the bottom of the FV - is that ALL spent yeast, or is some of it still viable? I assume there's plenty of yeast in suspension in secondary to finish fermenting the brew? Do people normally wait until reaching a certain gravity before r...

Secondary Fermentation - Was it too soon to rack?
Hi folks. I know a lot of people dispense with secondary fermentation, but I wanted to give it a go as it was my first kit brew. I read that if you're going to rack to secondary, you should do it just before primary is finished - in order to create a protective CO2 layer on top of the beer. So, tran...

Re: Kit Recommendation Please - Red Ale
Great, I'll take a look at that one in time.Stomach wrote:I am currently drinking a Coopers IPA. I did it with a tin of Light Malt Extract and 500g medium spraymalt. Its a really full bodied beer and to me is a little Old Specked Hen ish!
Very nice beer indeed!! And it cleared within a week of bottling!

Re: Kit Recommendation Please - Red Ale
Great, thanks for the replies guys, I'll take a look at those.
I've got a big thing for Brew Dog 5am Saint at the moment, but I love any of those fruity red ales. If I can even get close to this style using a kit I'll be happy.

Kit Recommendation Please - Red Ale
Hi folks, can anyone recommend a kit for a red ale (something similar to Bishop's Finger, Speckled Hen or 5am Saint?)?
Would like to try one of the Coopers kits as I understand they're very reliable. Any recommendations on those? (would like to avoid lager for the moment).
Thanks.
