Re: Ron Pattinson's The Homebrewer's Guide to Vintage Beer

The US has been attempting to move towards the Metric system since President Ford signed the Metric Conversion Act of 1975  Today after all that time most Americans can now identify a half litre of Coke  Cheers We stand alone with Burma and Liberia as the only countries who haven't ...

Re: Pub Cask Stuff

I'm tempted to buy a stainless pin, but Thanksgiving is the only time it would get used and I can't justify it for once a year. I can't drink that much on my own :D

Brew Like a Monk

Brew Like a Monk by Stan Hieronymus is very good. Giving many percentages and various suggestions for brewing as well as the history and practices of breweries. Stan has written other books that I have not read but others here found very informative.

Re: A choice of Mills

I use a Jack Schmidling Mill, adjustable on one side without gearing. Schmidling's was the only roller mill on the market when I bought it around 1997 and I love it. All of the mills above look great, but the Mashmaster mill is probably the best one because of the stainless rollers if you wish to co...

Re: Carboys versus plastic fv's

One advantage to glass (and I imagine Better bottles but I have never used one) is that they are easily made air tight so CO2 can be used to push the beer out; it's the easiest way to start a siphon. I only get the flow started then disconnect and let gravity take over but some people keep the gas c...

Re: Carboys versus plastic fv's

I only use glass carboys and what's funny is that Better Bottles made from PET are becoming more popular than glass because they are much lighter and unbreakable, and cheaper since glass carboys are no longer made in Mexico (all imported from Italy now). I have (thankfully [-o< ) never broken one of...

Re: Hello after a long break! Malting my own now....

http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=36494 Hopefully Jim's directions on posting pictures are clear. But whatever works. I wish I had enough sun to grow tomatoes and hops. Our tiny backyard is covered by a big tree, which is nice actually, but we can only grow ferns. Which are al...

Re: Hello after a long break! Malting my own now....

Well, if its any use I thought I might post some pics of the malting process as I have just started some yesterday. I hope I can post the pics ok as its been 2 years since I really used the PC much (I ain't old, just got fed up of slaving my guts out over PC's.) So, let me try. First up is a pic of...

Re: Very Green Brewday

The hop back filter is very nice but I have to admit for a lot of it I don't even know what I'm looking at  I really like the metal ruler for measuring the level, I never thought of that, instead I put notches in my wooden brew spoon which is pretty crude. I'll be adding one to my shopping lis...

I've been using Beer Alchemy for years and really like it. I will be trying Beersmith when brewing season starts again for me.
