Re: Sticking Munton's (Woodfordes) Kits - Information and offer

Muntons 3.6kg kits state an OG of 1050 and an ABV of 5% However, 3.6kg of lme should give an OG of 1047 Both 3.6Kg kits I've done had OG 1052 (Midas Touch) and 1051 (Smugglers) corrected for 20C. Maybe they're a bit more concentrated than usual? On the other hand, I made up the Smugglers last Sunda...

Re: Original Gravity Problems

My guess? I suspect your mixing isn't thorough enough. When I do 3 or 3.6Kg kits I warm the tins and pour into the bin, add the 6 pints or so of boiling water using a bit to rinse the tins. THEN, I use my long handled spoon to stir and scrape the base of the bin. Tipping the bin, to expose the base ...

Re: OG/ABV calculator

To be fair, my Midas touch (25th Aug OG 1052, 4th Sep FG 1015) came out at close to 5%. I use (OG-FG)*0.129 which I got from Inland Revenue calculations, +0.23% assuming the 85g of bottling sugar ferments completely.

Re: Muntons Santa warmer

I haven't tried the Santa's Warmer. But in defence of Munton's I have brewed the Premium Smugglers twice now and both times it has been amazing. I am half tempted to just keep brewing it but feel I ought to spread my wings a bit and try some others  I'm not sure if I'd risk "santa's" but I've ...

Re: Wilkos beer enhancer for stout ?

I've used it with every 1.8Kg kit I've made from Wilko's (£4.99 to £11.99 old prices + £3.29 for the enhancer) and been pleased with the results. Not in the same league as 3 or 3.6KG kits I've bought elsewhere but then these cost £19 - £22.

True, but not a very good mix. Each time I've bought it you can see around 2/3 light brown powder at one end of the bag and 1/3 white powder poured on top. So I guess it's about 1/3 glucose.

Re: EASY BREW.CO.UK GONE BUST????

I've not dealt with Easybrew, just been watching the train wreck. "Been ill"? I guess it could "come and go", feeling fine so can take the money super-efficiently, now about to despatch some orders and a funny turn comes on. I was sympathetic at first but this has gone on for far too long. If this r...

I've seen others divide by 7.46 and would like to know which is the most accurate although if it's an enjoyable pint who really cares?! HM Revenue and Customs ? Then remember to add something for priming sugar: If you use cane sugar for priming and it fully ferments then half that weight results in...

I take OG before pitching. For a rehydrated yeast in 100ml of water it won't make any difference. Example: Suppose OG is 1.045 before pitching. You have 23 litres, so that means mass is 23 x 1.045 = 24.035 Kg To boost the OG to 1.046, new mass is 1.046 x 23.1 = 24.1626 Kg, which means your 100ml of ...

I've done: one FV, sugar teaspooned into individual bottles two FVs: transfer just before bottling to mix priming sugar solution two FVs: transfer after initial vigourous fermentation (Munton's advice to avoid "yeast bite") Conclusion? I doubt I could tell the difference in a blind tasting. I also t...

My brew process is much the same as you but: I use two sanitised bins, cans are sanitised in one. First bin is filled with water and 1/2 campden tablet added, 6 pints of this water boiled and added to the kit in the second bin (cans left in hot water, not boiled). I then open the tap on the first bi...

Spare Yeast

I just baked some rolls using wherry yeast. They rose slower but apart from that the ale yeast did a good job (into the breadmaker with 2 cups strong white, 1 cup wholemeal, 1 cup water, sachet wherry yeast, bit of salt, oil & sugar then "dough" program, when done chop up the dough, leave to rise on...
