Re: Growing hops from seed

Thanks for all the comments chaps. I'll take them out of the fridge and get them potted in compost then move them out to our conservatory. There's plenty of natural light and they won't be exposed to any late frosts that way. On a side note, I've also ordered a Challenger rhizome online so if the se...

Re: Growing hops from seed

Thanks for the replies chaps. I was planning to just grow the hops for a bit of fun and a challenge to grow from seed! As to whether I'd be able to use the end product for brewing, well that will remain to be seen!! The seeds have been in a sandwich bag now for around a month stuck to damp kitchen ...

Growing hops from seed

I was wondering whether anyone had experience in growing hops from seeds? I was given a hop growing kit as a gift and it says that to get the seeds to germinate, you need to leave them between two damp sheets of paper towel in the fridge for at least one month or until they show signs of growth. My ...

Pressure barrel o-ring

I need to invest in some new o-rings for my pressure barrels. I've had a look online and they seem to be around £4 each so I wondered whether anyone had used any other alternative o-rings? Obviously it would need to be food / drink safe, but I wondered if anyone had used an o-ring that wasn't origin...

Re: Wherry head retention

Thanks Lee, I think I'll leave it alone then unless anyone thinks I should definitely re-prime.

Cheers

Re: Wherry head retention

Thanks Lee, I've just put it back in the airing cupboard and will leave it there for a couple more weeks before transferring back to the porch. Do you think it's worth me re priming, or should there still be enough sugar in there for the yeast to feed on?

Re: Wherry head retention

Hi Lee, do you mean a week in somewhere warm? Is it worth me sticking it back in the airing cupboard for a few more days or is it too late now it's been cold stored for a week?

Cheers

Wherry head retention

I've got a barrel full of wherry conditioning at the moment and when I drew of a small sample to taste it, the head wasn't that full and there wasn't a huge amount of carbonation. I primed with around 85g of brewing sugar and kept it in my airing cupboard for a few days before moving it to the porch...

Re: PET bottles

Re: PET bottles

Thanks for all the replies. My plan is to use Sainsbury's sparkling water bottles and I think they're green so should be okay as I'm not planning to store them for too long. I'm syphoning most of my ginger beer into a pressure barrel but want to also fill a few bottles so give away to family over Ch...

PET bottles

Hopefully this will be a fairly straightforward question for someone to answer. If I go and buy a six pack of sparkling water in 500ml PET bottles, then can I syphon beer straight into the bottles once I've emptied out the contents and added some sugar, or do I still need to sterilise them first? Ch...
