Re: Reverse Osmosis - Any advice on buying?
I bought the pump off eBay, and the tds meters are on there too. The ro unit itself is the 100 gallon per day unit with deionisation after the reverse osmosis. My water pressure is terrible, or was in the last place. Not tried the filter here yet. The pump was essential before.

Re: Reverse Osmosis - Any advice on buying?
I've got an ro unit from ro-man from when I had fish recently. With a pump it does about 10 l an hour, and the online tds (total dissolved solids) meter shows it at 0 on the way out, prior to the deionisation stage. Wasn't cheap, but quite shiny. The meter is an essential add-on. You know for a fact...

Re: Hello from Wilkinson
My Mrs just made the forest fruits cider and declared it amazing. So, if the rest of the range is as good, you are onto a winner. My only suggestion is to carry yeast nutrient, full yeast range etc in all stores. I know space is limited, but the way the sachets are stored there's room to add more ye...

Re: Fitting a full kit brew in a Cornelius Keg
I brew 36 pints, bottle the rest. Going down to 32 might make the beer a bit too strong, both in flavours and alcohol for most styles. Worth a shot with a kit you know you like. But I like having some bottles to hand for going visiting mates

Re: Buying bottles
Cheers for the link. A mate who also brews is after some bottles, and the local pubs have mostly said "no" or "only if you collect them at the end of each night" which was as good as "no" so we're looking at maybe getting a pallet of bottles delivered between us, if we can get a third person interes...

Re: Batch Priming Question
I usually take some of the beer out, dissolve sugar in that, and pit that back in the bottling bucket. A pint or two out, sugar dissolved, then that into bottling bucket with rest of the beer on top.

Buying bottles
So far I've been recycling the bottles from beer I've bought in the shops, but I'm hoping to brew bigger batches soon, as I'm setting up to go all grain. Where do you buy beer bottles? I'm possibly looking to get a couple of hundred, so I can store beer for a while to condition. Buying half a dozen ...

Re: apple pieder
well, the pieder is bottled and lightly carbonated. it's not bad, but i think it may improve significantly with age. theres not a lot of the cinnamon coming through, but the vanilla is very much there, so if i make it again, i'll add more cinnamon and less vanilla.

Re: apple pieder
was more to dissolve the sugar and sterilize the cinnamon, i reckoned the yeast would eat the sugar easier if it was dissolved.

Re: apple pieder
i pondered nutmeg, but thought it might be a bit ovrpowering if left in the fermenter, and may not stick about if it didnt make ti to the fv. i might have another go if this lot doesnt have the desired effect

I'm trying to make cider that's a little like apple pie. 4l of apple juice, 300g cane sugar, a cup of REALLY strong tea, a few drops of vanilla ...

Brew day helper central Scotland
Hi folks
I'm looking to progress from kits to grain, but before I invest much money, I would like to see how its done, more than eBay shows. I'd like to visit someone on. Brew day and help out, so I get a decent idea of how it goes.
So, anyone in central belt fancy a brew day helper?

Re: Items that could be used as a false bottom
Sky dishes are mild steel. They rust really well when the paint chips. So, sadly no use as a false bottom
