Re: Underletting
I. Always add water to mash tun allow to stand to warm up the tun, then check adjust to strike temp then dough in. If I change to under letting how do you allow for temp drop? I preheat my mash tun first (thermo pot). I add water at around 75c for 15 minutes then drain before adding the grist. I ke...

Re: Gas burner for 200 litre pit
Many thanks for the replies, I shall start looking at the suggestions. Do those burners support the kettle or do you have it supported by something else like bricks etc? I was wondering about that too. 180 litres is some weight to support! I was going to build a metal stand and sit the burner on it ...

Gas burner for 200 litre pot
Hi all, I've always used electricity to heat my pots and am looking at changing to gas. I have no idea when it comes to gas so could someone tell me what size gas ring I would need to boil around 180 litres of wort please? Do the Kw numbers equate to the same as element ratings; 7kw of elements woul...

Re: First lager..ish beer. Will it carbonate!?
Looks great! Unless it's been filtered or pasteurised even the clearest beer will still have loads of yeast in it. Certainly enough to carbonate. I leave my lagers conditioning at zero degrees for upto three months and they always carbonate. Should be a cracker. Good luck with it.

Apart from what has already been said, they look like they might be a real pain to reach into to clean or fit taps to etc?

I just print onto card and then trim and laminate. Creates a good, shiny, long lasting, waterproof clip.

Re: Robinsons Old Tom recipe
Hi All, Just back from a trip to Cheshire where i sampled Old Tom for the first time. Wow! I have tried to find a recipe on various forums with no joy. Does anyone have one or an idea of what i would need to have a go at this at home? FYI - would be brewing a 20ltr batch. Thanks in advance! Col Try...

Re: CO2 Using a Fire Extinguisher
I think RunwellSteve used/uses a fire extinguishers without issue. Other than that are you on good terms with a pub landlord anywhere? I get a gert big bottle of gas from my local for £25. She rents the bottle from her usual suppliers and i just ring her a day or so before i need a refill and swap i...

Re: Sediment free real ale
Even if you cold condition at 0c for a few months you will not rid the beer of yeast. I lager at 0c for up to three months and there is still enough yeast to work on the priming sugars when I bottle. I think you will only get yeast free if you filter and/or pasteurise the beer? Then again it is no l...

Re: Starting a micro brewery
unfortunately the landlord has to pay rent ,heating, staff , vat etc. when I ran a pub our gross margin was 50% so if we bought in at 96p we would be looking at selling at £1.92. Unfortunately we had to buy from the pubco so we were buying in at something like £1.30 pint and sell at £2.60 or round....

Re: Starting a micro brewery
It's ridiculous really. Brewers earn peanuts and their beer does a few laps of the country before it sees a pint glass! I know it's all down to scales of economy but it's a scary thought investing the money to go big enough to make a living to then get your prices stripped right back! Is there a mid...

Re: Insulation for a SS boiler
That sounds like a plan Horatio! Just found a pair of 180cm x 50cm x 8mm on ebay for £8.35 delivered. My AG kit should be ready to Rock n Roll in the New Year :) PS. What do you use to fasten it to your boiler? Duct tape? They sound like a bargain! To secure them I use the tape that Andy linked to,...
