Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

Right, brewing is over and the fermenter has 43 litres in. Once the boil finished everything went a bit tits up! In an attempt to save water I diverted the output into the HLT. This turned out to be a terrible idea as I ended up using a huge amount of water due to the high ground water temperature a...

Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

25 mins left on the boil and things are starting to get busy again. Just clocked over to 6L of water lost and time to add the first hops! https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3863/14669356552_252b4e8bde_z.jpg Hop rocket is now in StarSan and ready for 72g of hops: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3918/14482...

Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

Ok, so that was a fairly involved process so I'm now heating for the boil. Anyway, at the end of 60mins the mash tun was at 63.2C (a drop of 5.6C). My temperature probe is in the lower part of the mash tun and doesn't extend that far in so it might have been around 64C on average. https://farm4.stat...

Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

Mash is one and oh my doughballs! I've always underlet (put the grain in the mash tun and slowly pumped water in from below) and this time is the first time I've ever had doughballs (clumps of grain that are dry in the middle). Anyway it's all ready to go now! https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3872/144...

Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

Ok, all ready to go. Overshot my HLT temp as I'm used to having a pump even out the water temp for me so I've got my newly built extraction lid on top to try and cool the water. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5491/14481574150_e887916476_z.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3869/14667918972_cbed155db...

Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

So here it is... a rather ridiculous use up recipe! Re: [LIVE BREW] AG#5 Dead Pump

In an effort to clean up even more I updated my Beersmith inventory and have the following hops open in the freezer: 87.00 g Cascade [5.50 %] 90.00 g Citra [12.00 %] 79.00 g Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] 54.00 g Kohatu [7.80 %] 82.00 g Motueka [7.00 %] I think this is shaping up to be an IPA with massive a...

AG#5 Dead Pump IPA

I'm going to be updating this throughout the day (partly to give me an idea of my own timings) but first some background: last night while I was heating up about 80 litres of water for a big brewday I realised that both my pumps were dead. I had a leak from a pipe that also damaged two of my three s...

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade

@Gonga Having thought about it for a while, your problems might be due to infection. 'Sour Beers' end up with a pH around 3 and they are intentionally inoculated with souring bacteria. Be sure to give everything that might touch your cider a thorough clean and sanitisation. Remember that StarSan isn...

Re: Using A Cornelius Keg - First Timer

Also, for Q3 there will be a sudden drop in pressure at the end of the bottle. However by that point you'll be at the end of the bottle. Since bottles are filled based on the weight of the CO2 added then you can weigh the tank periodically to see how much is left. There is only so much a flow contro...

Re: Using A Cornelius Keg - First Timer

Afraid I'm in too much of a rush to answer the rest but make sure your SodaStream adaptor fits your regulator. I got one and it didn't!

Re: Simple Cheap and Tasty, Raspberryade

The simple answer is no and definitely not with priming sugar. You might be ok, especially if your gravity readings have been stable for over a week but there's a good chance the extra sugar might kickstart the fermentation again. As an experiment I've used the last little bit of mine that didn't go...
