3rd AG of 2014 - Yuletide'ish

I have been looking to keep the festive period alive by attempting to make a batch of Adnams Yuletide using yeast recovered from a mini keg of the real stuff. After adding keg slurry to a starter and a rinsing have a couple of jars like this; http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2838/12137697344_482100a185...

Adnams Yuletide - could do with some assistance

Afternoon All, My local supermarket has been selling mini kegs of the Adnams and St Peters range (as they are the local brews). I picked up a keg of Adnams Yuletide (which promptly evaporated) so I was going to try and clone a batch to refill using a starter from the yeast in the keg. The tasting no...

Re: Porter

I've just started a smoked porter that I wanted to jazz up but thought coffee would be too much. I've instead gone for some Pecan extract from a local cake decorating shop. For fear of ruining a decent batch I'm hoping to add come bottling, possibly splitting the batch to see if the extra effort was...

Re: New Brewery

hey Will, I bought a similar pig tail element for my keg, to keep it simple I just used a double socket box to cover it http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51631 This was just to get me going with the plan to buy a stainless version later on to keep the aesthetic but to date been ...

Very true. I might head down to the nearest orphanage and get myself a dedicated brewer.

Great build Scotia and all for your 13 yr old?! Father of the century award is sure to follow. Shame it'll be a few years before he can try the fruits of his labour...

Re: The Bread Maker

Loving the optimistic use of 'simply' :)

I had been on a flight of fancy making something similar (or a 2 tier) using gastronorm pans instead of pots but got bogged down with the realism that i'd build a death trap. I hope this turns out well as it would be an excellent single vessel setup.

Re: The Bread Maker

Another cracking build this. Come the apocalypse someone needs to protect Barneey, that way there will be someone to rebuild the brewing industry. I fancied building something like this for a better controlled system, however considering I destroyed the fuse box in our house (twice) putting my modif...

Re: PicoBrew Zymatic automated homebrew setup

Something that may be of interest. The Brewbot boys have updated their kickstarter http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cargo/brewbot-the-smart-brewing-appliance to just sell the automation side. Quite an interesting prospect for those of us already with an established system. I certainly wouldnt be ...

Re: The utlimate bit of kit?

Looks like an interesting compact unit. Could set it up before watching the football and pop you head in when you need to add ingredients! From the looks of it they're using Gastronorm pans as the vessels with the top as the combined HLT and boiler. If the mash tun is in the middle, and it drains to...

Re: Recommend me an element...

I use one of these. http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/200891299373?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y It was very easy to install. Small holes. Sealed well, no leaks. Only issue is I had a double skinned pot so making the housing for it was easy. I boil around 30L in a insulate...

Re: Honey Ale AKA Killer Bee Pale Ale

Looks like a very tasty brew. I love your throwaway remark that the honey is from your own bees! That really ups the game from making your own candi sugar from boiling a pan of sugar for half and hour.

Re: White House Beer?

I'm half way through a batch of a cobbled together Honey Ale as my local HBS had biscuit malt in stock. Came out very good using Windsor yeast. For the honey I used a freshly opened clear honey from the heath food shop added at the last 15min of the boil at the same time with the Irish moss. Gave it...

Re: Moreland "Old Golden Hen" Clone

Obtaining the moorlands yeast is the difficult part (i've looked into hens tooth, only place I can find it is from morelands direct and they want £30 for 12 bottle of the stuff plus postage  ) Ive seen recommendation for WLP002 too The Greene King Brewery in Bury St Edmund's also has it. Sad...

Pic of the back of the pack which does mention made in the UK from imported and local ingredients, so hopefully we'll find the range expanding across the UK.
