Re: £10 Xmas Stout!
...This sounds right up my street so I've bookmarked it for future use. Too late for this Christmas but I'm tempted to make some in the New Year and set it aside for next Christmas... (Also plan to try Ditch's stout at some point as well, of course.) There is still time to get a Ditch's Stout ready...

Re: Bottling first attempt
If you are reusing bottles from the supermarket then be careful when priming. These bottles are not really designed to be reused, so you don't want to use a lot of priming sugars, although ales generally have a lower carbonation level than lagers. It hasn't happened to me (yet) but if the pressure b...

Re: Back after nearly a year away from brewing.
I'd be happy if I see 1010, as I find Wherry a little sweet for my liking, so that should balance it out a bit. Plus a little more ABV. Cheers WA.WalesAles wrote: Hello LM,
Yours may drop a few more points yet. I`ve done 3 Wherrys and 2 Sundew and they all reached 1010.

Re: Back after nearly a year away from brewing.
Hi guys, just got a quick question about a Wherry I have on the go at the moment. Up until now I have done Wherry 3 or 4 times, and usually the gravity will come down to around 1016-1014. On this occasion I have done it a little different. I am using spring water (Tesco Clearview, 25p for 2 litres) ...

Re: Tesco have increased their range..but
At the time of my post I had 3 English Bitter kits in my basket... but by the time I had signed my life away to Tesco Direct (had to open an account) the fecking item was out of stock!
So I ordered a couple of the lager kits instead.

Re: Tesco have increased their range..but
A lot of them are through a third party company called Cleverboxes, not Tesco Direct themselves. Coopers kits look to be a tenner at the moment... might grab a few.

Re: One Can Kit - No Sugar
It could work but it would depend on the kit. I wouldn't want to do it with an IPA or a Coopers stout as I think it would be too bitter but for ones with less IBUs it should be OK. I did 2 cans of Coopers IPA to 23 litres the other week. I also added 750 grams of DME. I tested it when bottling and ...

Re: Back after nearly a year away from brewing.
It's good to hear that you've got it bottled. What ball ache of a brew for your reintroduction to the hobby. You may find that the high FG will help balance the inevitable high bitterness that you will get from a toucan IPA brew. Cheers MB Hi MB, I don't really mind that it was a pain in the derriè...

Re: Back after nearly a year away from brewing.
Hi guys, Well, my beer only made it down to 1017, so after secondary (80g dextrose) should be about 5.5% or so. I put it in bottles and am prepared for quite a long conditioning period. Of course, I have done the obligatory taste test from the batch prime bucket and it is really really hoppy =P~ , a...

Re: wilkos light golden lager question
If you have an idea of what the final gravity should be it would help, my guess is about 1010 or so. The important thing is that you can tell if fermentation has finished using a hydrometer. If you measure it after say 10 days from starting and it's at 1012 for example, then you measure 3 days later...

Re: wilkos light golden lager question
Ideally you could buy a hydrometer. I'm not sure what yeast they use, but I'll bet it's an ale yeast, so 15 will be a bit low, ideally 18-20 like the destructions say. EDIT: It wont necessarily spoil it but it could cause the yeast to go dormant, meaning it wont fully ferment. And that's wher...

Re: Back after nearly a year away from brewing.
I'm no yeast expert, but pitching more yeast into wort that is now alcoholic, is probably a much harsher environment for the yeast metabolise and reproduce :-k Cheers MB Hi MB, That is something I had thought about too, as it will already be knocking on the door of 5% ABV. I'll give it a few more d...
