Re: Low mash pH help

If you can try to get your head round Bru 'n Water , it will calculate malt acidity for you and give a very good prediction of mash pH. You can then adjust your treatment to suit each recipe. It looks really daunting at first but you don't need a chemistry degree! You can figure it out just by readi...

Re: Rough weight of a beer engine?

It will depend on the cylinder size but if you call it 10kg each, you won't be overestimating by much.

Re: Vin Clear for beer?

At any point after the kettle, finings are going to strip some flavour out. I prefer not to use them. It doesn't really matter if you forget the protofloc; it's not a necessity.

Just scale the recipe down until you get a bigger boiler.

Cheers - we still need to meet up for a beer! Yeah... we will actually get round to that at some point. Right now, my booze times are few and far between until I eliminate the belly I have grown. I'm definitely going to indymanbeercon and I'm probably going to the opening night of Buxton's ne...

Re: Fermenting at 30degrees.

Not a lot of point trying to chill it now; most of the esters and fusels are created in the early stages of fermentation. There's a good chance it will taste like paint stripper for a month or two, but age might heal it.

Which yeast were you using?

If you try to clear a hop haze, what's the point dry hopping in the first place? :?

Im my view, a hop haze is a sign of quality in an IPA.

Re: Might have cocked up a starter - advice?

It'll be fine. It won't necessarily make tasty beer at those temps, but it's alright for a starter.

Welcome back, btw. ;)

Re: Corny Keg and Cooler Setup - Pints of Foam!

Thanks for the replies guys. I've had a look at the carbonation chart and it makes sense however I can't find any formula for the pressure drop along the pipe in order to get the 1-2 psi at the tap. Could you point me in the right direction please? The tube to the tap on the other side of the coole...

Re: Blue Monkey - BG Sips

I would move more hops to the end of the boil. Blue Monkey beers are very big on hop flavour. I'd aim for 35-40 IBU, with most of it coming from additions in the last 30 mins.

Have you tried emailing them? Some brewers are really helpful. One local micro even let me read his recipe book.

Farams were allocating them last week. I presume that means they're in hand now. You jumped the gun, just slightly.

Re: Is this a standatd gas cylinder?

The safety collar has expired and it looks pretty hammered. You'll have to get that serviced rather than a straight refill.
