Re: AG#97 - Brown Ceas

Sounds tasty! Let me know how you get on with those early Aramis additions. Also, a quicky question re bag in a box. I presume if you're using them now you've settled on a conditioning procedure. I haven't had a lot of space to play around with my bags for a few months so I've made little progress. ...

Re: US-05 Advice

I used to recirculate the mash too but find this is now unnecessary. I've found that the trick to clear wort into the fermenter is simply protofloc and time. Allowing the wort to settle after chill down for 30 mins allows the proteins to coagulate and settle on top of the hop bed. The drain off is ...

Re: Mocha Porter! Now fermenting...

Sounds great! Does the vodka addition screw with the calculated ABV of the beer at all or does the heating of it before adding drive off the alcohol?

Re: Steptoes cheap and cheerful ag build stage 1, & now stag

Nice work, all looking great so far! There's more to great beer than great looking, mega kit. Knowing how the kit works and understanding it is the important bit and you obviously have that. Your first pint will probably be the best pint you've ever tasted. Your second one will probably be the best ...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Yep its Haz66, though I've never been keen the wood look. Cheers Ade. I tend to agree, I'm not struck on the wooden cladding so much now. I was until a few months back and it looks nice enough but I just think it's a few too many other nooks and crannies to have to keep clean. I think I'll end up s...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Awesome stuff Steve, Great to see... There are a few bars/ caves near me selling artisanal french beer - I hope to see some of yours there soon. On a different note, there is a new brewery near me in Paris called la brasserie de la goutte d'or. Believe it or not the owner/ brewer had Dave Porter co...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

A very interesting thread, thanks for sharing and great way of introducing interesting beers to the locals. As other people have said in previous posts, looks great living in France with a brewery in your back garden! Cheers, I am delighted with the response of the other locals. I expected a lot mo...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

In other news, 2 x 120 litre fermenters arrived and I've ordered a 3m2 shed that I'm going to split into warm and cold rooms. Although, it might end up becoming the brewery and it's way more room than my current dinky one.

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Steve, that looks a bit like my drum kit in the background. Is that a Roland? A drumming, commerical brewer. You are like my idol. LOL, it's an Alesis DM10 - nice bit of kit at a price that doesn't take your eyes out like the Roland stuff. I have an acoustic kit too but tend to use the 'leccy one t...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Kind words guy but please, don't envy. It's really tough here, seriously tough. It's not just the language barrier, as reasonable as my French is getting these days, the complicated stuff is still really, crushingly (at times) hard. The land runs on narrow minded, short sighted beuorcracy and common...

Re: My mates first brew day

This thread is now about mates, apparently.... Did I miss something? The opening post seemed quite innocent.

I wish I had some mates :( Here I sit, all alone, drinking my brown booze, all alone. Trip to the cinema, yes that's right, just the one ticket please, I'm on my own :( sigh

Re: no brew day..bloody bottle washing

1) Bottle trees aren't expensive unless your LHBS is a rip off in which case you're already being ripped off for everything else. 2) Vinator spray gadget thing 3) Starsan 4) Take the time out to spend those vital few seconds to rinse your bottles out after you pour out their contents. If you leave y...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Cheers Highlander, I've been working on the label design for ages (in between France's myriad hurdles when trying to start a small business). It's commercial, small scale - up to 10,000 HL or something silly. Bit of a sod was this year the Douanes (Customs) increased duty from 1,38 euro per %abv per...

Re: Brewhouse Build - Outbuilding Conversion

Cheers boyo's! As far as figures go, difficult to calculate. It would be nice to be able to have around 2-3 months stock of core beers per brew just to cut the weekly/monthly brew days down. There's sooooo much more other stuff aside from making beer. I'm doing a regular range of ales plus I want to...
