Re: Vanishing hop aroma

Might just be that the raspberry is overpowering the hops.

Fruit beers are normally all about the fruit.

Re: Dry hop - temp reduction

The main issue regarding dry hopping and temperature is the possibility of getting vegetal flavour/aroma in the beer. I know Brewdog dry hop at 14C and I’ve got some info in one of my John Palmer books where I think it’s either Firestone Walker or Sierra Nevada who advise they chill down to the mid-...

Re: Chances of surviving sanitation blunder?

Don’t stress, your beer will be fine - yeast will crowd out anything that might be lurking (though I doubt it from what you described).

Re: How long for hops/yeast to clear in fermentation bucket?

If you can lower the temperature down below 10C it would help to clear the beer. Alternatively, try some finings.

Re: Why is this recipe cloudy?

I can’t offer any explanations - nothing in the recipe to suggest there would be a clarity issue.

I’ve used Brausol for the last few brews and wish I’d known about it from the start. It also gets rid of chill haze.

Try it - I think it’s only about 7ml per 20’ish litre batch.

Re: Protofloc - How much?

I use dried Irish moss, 1 tsp per 23L batch. I find it clumps proteins better than protofloc tablets. Mind, if one tablet is too much, it could just be that a double-dosing Of protofloc is not clumping the proteins together as effectively. My understanding is that too much will do this - a bit like ...

Building your own brewhouse is in the spirit of homebrew. It IS DIY after all.

Temperature control from 50-98C. Not gonna work as temperature control for wort I’m afraid - much too hot.

Might be worth having a sample but hopefully it is fine, sounds interesting!
That was my next step - try it and see how it tastes before going any further with it.

When I tried it at around 3 months it was bloody lovely - fruity, good body and soft.

Re: Pale malt in a lager recipe?

Could end up a bit darker (margainly) but also more bready/biscuity. Probably worth mashing a little lower and/or using a little bit sugar in the grist if you’re going for a Pilsner.

Re: Filtering Wine

The kits usually provide both potassium sorbate & pottassium metabisulfite to help prevent any wild bacteria / yeast taking a hold and also to stave off oxygenation. Did you add these when it fermented out initially? As for adding anything just now, might be worth reading up on g / l measurements? ...

Re: Filtering Wine

I believe oxygenation is much less of a problem with wine than it is with beer. Look how winemakers 'whip' their wine to remove the CO2 - you wouldn't do that with beer. I have a batch of wine that’s a year old now that needs transferred from 10L demijohn to bottles. Do people really just knock the...

Re: Sierra Nevada pale ale recipe

Any ideas on the water profile? Thinking balanced between gypsum / sulphate? No idea what their water profile is, but they do acidify their sparge liquor to 5.7 to prevent pH going above this in order to stop tannins at end of sparge. American beers tend not to be very minerally, so maybe go with 1...
