Kegged a coopers pale ale 3-4 weeks ago. Made it up with 1kg of chinese rice maltose. Added a quick tea made of boiling water and some goldings.
Cleared well and very hoppy, which I like. My first coopers and i like it. I have a coopers pilsner in the FV atm.

My recommendation is pick a kit that looks good and takes your fancy. BUT two things that made a huge difference to my kit brewing: 1. Add a crushed campden tablet to the brewing water before it touches anything containing malt or hops. (Number one must do, even if you don't do anything else.) 2. Us...

Having kept tropical fish in a past life - chlorine/chloramine kills fish. Generally you add a chlorine/chloramine remover from water befor adding it to a live tank. The additive is generally a phenolphthalein derivative. Works for fish but not people I believe. Reverse osmosis is the way to go fo p...

I must say that the most important thing that I have learned from this forum is the addition of a campden tablet (a teaspoon of campden powder in my case) to my water before brewing. No more home brew twang. Seriously the best thing I have learned. I recently opened the last bottle of the last brew ...

As an experiment I have started a batch of beer using the rice maltose I got from my local asian supermarket. Geordie Lager beer kit 2 kg rice maltose Made up to 5 gallons. I used 2 packets of the kit supplied yeast (QVB it was stamped on the packet - if that indicates the type of yeast ) OG 1051 I ...

I tried the plastic tops and found I didn't like them as they didn't keep pressure. But a darn sight better than trying to crown cap with a mallet. Tried that as well. After breaking the rims of 3 or 4 decent bottles I stumped up for a 2 lever crown capper. Money well spent IMO. I really recommend y...

Funnily enough the Dave Line 'Old Peculiar' was the first extract brew I tried (actually the only recipe I ever tried) some 14 years ago. I liked the name and actually had never tried real OP before I tried brewing it. A few years later I was surprised to find it had turned out pretty much like the ...

Sulphurous smell
Tired of getting the HBT in every single kit I have made I decided on a full DME brew. I got a Brupaks Brewers Choice Scottish 80/- and made it up with 1kg of medium DME. I followed the kit instructions. I used 1/2 teaspoon of campden powder to remove chlorine and chloramines. Everything I could thi...
