Re: 48l Pot

Hi guys Thanks for all the input. I think my best option will be to try it out on the hob. The missus is very understanding about the smell, I'm sure she's actually getting to like it  My main worry though is the gunge that's coating the pot. The pot was previously used to mix various liquids f...

Re: 48l Pot

If you've got a gas hob, before you get carried away with elements just put 30 litres of water in the pot and see how it performs on the gas. You might be able to use more than one gas ring, depending upon the dimensions. And the heated water will be useful for cleaning the pot with... Hi boingy I'...

Re: 48l Pot

I boil about 33l in a 65l boiler and have two 2.75kw elements fitted. I find that using just one takes too long to get a rolling boil. I start with two then switch to one once its rolling. :D Hi Horatio Forgive the stupid question but I presume you plug them into seperate sockets? :? How long would...

48l Pot

Hi all I have " acquired  " a 48l stainless pot from work. It's coated in dried on hardned turmeric resin that I'll have to clean off 1st but my main question is..... Would I get away with fitting just one of those 2.7kW elements ( not the little curly ones from budget kettles )? I don't plan ...

Re: Planning for first all grain

Hi Tom, It's a bit of both really :=P I originally looked into doing a partial mash for a recipe in GW's book and mashing in my stockpot. So i thought i might as well try and work out the maximum amount of grain i could mash in it. Thats where i came to the conclusion of doing a 10L brew, as i can ...

Re: Planning for first all grain

Hi guys, I'm thinking its time to try out all grain brewing, after having successfully completed 2 extract brews. I have a 15L stockpot (28cm diameter x 25cm tall), so rather than do a full biab, im thinking of doing a 10L brew, using my stockpot as a mash tun. The plan is to line it with some voil...

Re: beer off ?

Happy new year to one and all. i brewed a Timothy Taylor for christmas but i am not sure if it is off. i really struggled to maintain a steady temperature during fermentation and it dropped as low as about 12C for a while during the end. The beer is slightly cloudy and has a strange tang although i...

Re: to squeeze or not

Hi naked spark I've not long started supping my 1st BIAB beer and am very impressed. I squeezed my bag to get a bit more out of the grains as I didn't sparge. I was a little concerned as the wort going into the boil was very cloudy but when I tipped the final brew into the fermenter through my voile...

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????

Why not email Thornbridge, they have been known to be very helpful :) Or get on Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/thornbridge Hi pdtnc I mailed them a while ago asking if there was anywhere in Worcester ( break away with the missus ) that might have any of their beers on but got no reply. Might give t...

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????

Hi, Apart from the NS hops I'm not sure about a recipe/hop schedule etc... I know that they like to use late hopping via their hopback... I also like Hopton too as it uses Bramling cross - which I think is underated as a English hop variety... I'd love to get my hands on a clone recipe for either b...

Re: 1st attempt

Tom, Brewday itself was good. It was all a bit daunting prior to getting the first one done, but I had written down a step to step guide for myself, and it all went well considering. It does mean that now I have my first under my belt I know what to expect for future brewdays. I now know that 35l b...

Re: Thornbridge Kipling recipe????

Not at the moment though :( I will keep checking though........ I was wondering more about the amounts to use though rather than the availability. I'll always have pale malt at home so if I've got a recipe I can wait till I can actually find some hops then brew when I'm ready :D Cheers Tom
