Re: Classic Irish Red Ale

Looks fine but the colour needs to be darker so add some chocolate malt and maybe pull back on the pale malt as this so called style is not as high as 1056, more like 1037 so less alcohol. :)

Re: Centrifuge

What are you trying to gain? Might sound like a stupid question but centrifuges become attractive for larger set ups because your primary cost is manpower and time not to mention refrigeration. Waiting for 100HL of beer to cool and then waiting for the drop time is costly not to mention the cost of...

Centrifuge

Has anyone here ever used a centrifuge machine to filter their beer. Looking at this as a possible project for the new year. One problem I can foresee is possible dissolved oxygen pick up.

Re: Element sizes for 4bbl brew

The only logical way I can follow this is after they have completed the sparged of the grains they have some sort of heat exchanged connected to the mash tun to extract the heat from the left over mash grains. :?:

Re: Can anyone tell me how the hell RIMs works?!?!

This is a common problem as most people concentrate on the rims/herms design side of the build and then like you test it with flowing water only to come up against the mash thickness not playing fair. Larger pump will only suck harder on the mash and compact it into concrete. You need the largest su...

Re: rims/herms

Be questioning about those American systems or others that run through their HLT's. I found that when researching rims/herms systems alot of the posts show you an apparently good build but they then don't re post later to tell you the system did not perform as expected. :x

Re: rims/herms

Did not know the Jaipur boys have one. Nice to know as I tried finding out if anyone used this method commercially. Have a hetms myself and if I try to do a big mash I can't. Young lad I know spent last summer working in US at various craft brewery's and he said that none of them use this method. Do...

Re: rims/herms

Commercial brewers don't use this system. You can however use it to get a better extract from your mash and clearer wort. The thicker your mash the harder to drain wort so as you use a pump to draw wort from the bottom it can compact the mash. A larger drainage system for your mash tun can help to o...

Re: Jaipur Recipe from IPA book

I got Conan yeast from US and I am thinking of using this recipe with it. Yeast produces a peachy note.

Myself and others did a group buy of the crankandstein 2S models just over a year ago. Landed them cost all in @ €88 a pop from the USA. After 12 months find them excellent even though they do not adjust. :D

Re: Bend to Shape Elements

I used one to make a heating element that fitted outside on my boil kettle. 3Kw x 2.5m long. Made a plywood jig first to work out the layout and then bent it by hand. http://i.imgur.com/398G7iT.jpg?1 Next I used the floor of a second keg to create a sandwich to help press it tight to the base of my ...
