Re: Buying hops
Been using Worcester Hop Shop (WHS) lately, before and during CV. Usually get a 25kg sack and a kg of hops. Use maltmiller occasionally too. Used Crossmyloof (CML) for hops and US Pale yeast who are good but stock levels got overwhelmed due to CV. All depends who’s got the stock of hops and if I nee...

Re: Jester Hops
Just had the lid off and a sniff of the fermenter aromas. Thought it smelled ok, then went for another, it smells good. Definitely blackcurrent, some spicyness, and that Lilt smell.
I’m not joking - so far so good.

Re: Jester Hops
Well, brewing tomorrow in sunny DL7. Can’t take the suspense anymore. Varied reviews but thanks for everyone’s take. One part of me says, if they were good, there’d be more noise about them, another part says if it’s naff just dry hop with Nelson or Citra. MeatyMC, I live off St James - there’ll be ...

Re: Jester Hops
Thanks NB. Good to hear your take on them. Really looking forward to commenting on the Jester, from opening the packet until tasting. I like Nelson sauvin, citra etc and use them fairly often. But enjoy equally brews with northdown & cascade or northdown, cascade, fuggles, challenger. To use a Briti...

Re: Jester Hops
There’ll be plenty of late hops going in, am sure it will be a good brew. Probably bitter with challenger or northdown, then a few Jester at 30 mins, the rest at 10, 1 & steep. Dry hop. 4kg Extra Pale Maris Otter. Have read the hop descriptions, seen a couple of YouTube tasting clips but going to tr...

Jester Hops.
Can anybody give me their opinion on Jester hops? I’ve just received 200gms and will be brewing with them soon. Done a bit of Googling but only snippets of info. Unfortunately don’t ever recollect drinking a pint with them in.

45 ltr Brewday - Me Th’ale.
More lockdown and the one corny keg brew, plus a couple of full 2ltr PET bottles isn’t lasting very long. Got a 30ltr mash tun, got a 50 ltr boiler, got enough malt, hops, yeast - time to do a 2 corny brew. O.G for 40ltrs was 1.047, at end of boil I topped volume up for O.G of 1.042. Got 8.3kg of gr...

Re: Protofloc at beginning of boil - what will it do?
Hope you sorted it out. Expensive, over complicated - but I’d probably love it if I had one. More lock down, 50 ltr boiler needs to be 70 ltr for comfortable 50 ltr brew headspace. £119 klarstein mash kettle will be full capacity, but good for 8KG of malt - hopefully. It’s a good mash tun, don’t see...

Re: Filtering?
Cold crashing, never had a clear pint resulting from this technique. Just chill haze, which is worse than had I left it to settle.

Good skills on posting a video, pics are my limit :D Some one was good enough to show me the basics, hlt, mash, boiler, cooling, pitch the yeast. Went home and made a set up based on this guys efforts. May need to go back/fwd a page https://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=80962 Went ...

Re: IPA brewday vid
Who taught you to brew all-grain? That is all way too complicated, gadgetry going on, stuff and more stuff. As long as you got beer that tastes ok, fair play. Many commercial 10BBL, 20 BBL breweries use, NO, none, not any electronic gadgetry. Return to basics, they work. Filter your water, in-line f...
