Re: Gelatin
I believe gelatin is made by boiling up the hooves. Yum. :out As well as collegen from skin, ligaments and bones. Double yum! It always amazes me that, in striving for 'perfection', some brewers seem to think the best course of action is to dump this c**p in there! Each to their own, of course! :wi...

When I read your post, I assumed the link was going to take me to Brew Dog and another of their "wacky" and "oh-so-clever" publicity stunts!

Re: Savings, not costs!
I agree, I wouldn't drink half as much (or even a quarter as much) if I had to buy beer all the time!bitter_dave wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 11:00 amHowever, I think you have factor in the fact that we make more beer than we would otherwise buy, because we drink more than we would and perhaps give it away.

Re: Elecricity costs
I agree with the sentiment about enjoying it, but I'm pretty sure if I factor in the cost of all the gear I've bougt over the past few years, I'd probably still be better off buying beer...even the expensive stuff from the local bottle shop! Fair point, Cobnut! Though the smug satisfaction of drink...

Re: Elecricity costs
It's so hard to estimate as it depends on a lot of variables. Also, if you use a heater/cooler for fermentation/priming/serving, the cost goes up. The heating of cleaning/rinsing water is another factor...... Step up to all grain, make better beer for less than you can buy it for, have fun, enjoy th...

Re: 1989: Howard Stableford tried out concentrated beer on Tomorrow's World
I imagine it would have the same problem of Coke etc served from a dispenser which mixes syrup with water and, in some pubs, all you can taste is chlorine. Anyway, it's nothing new, some pubs have been serving watered down beer for years
Interesting video though, cheers!

Re: King Keg top or bottom tap preferred?
I use two top tap King Kegs and haven't had a problem with the float dip tube, as long as you make sure it's all the way on before filling. The only disadvantage would be that you always need Co2 to dispense, rather than being able to use gravity through a bottom tap.

Re: ginger wine recipe
The only ginger wine recipe I've tried was from CJJ Berry's book, 130 New Winemaking Recipes; For one gallon; 80g Root ginger 2 Oranges 2 Lemons 225g Raisins 1.3kg Sugar Yeast & nutrient -Peel the oranges and lemons (avoiding the white pith) and put them in a bucket with the chopped raisins. -Bring ...

Re: Fermentation advice, please
I made this cider a few months back and left if for 3 weeks at 24 degrees in an open fermenter (tin foil covering fermenter hole).
It will be fine.

I remember watching this a while back and felt that the experience was kinda wasted on him as he doesn't drink beer much. I'd love to have tried them! I agree, it would have been better if he'd had a few beer-loving friends round. It's a bit like opening an old tin of SPAM and not tasting it becaus...
