Re: Lactose for NEIPA?
PH in the finished beer is important for the taste, especially NEIPA. low 4 is ideal.

Re: Lactose for NEIPA?
I hate lactose in beer but your beer is too young hence the hop burn feel. I did a NEIPA with verdant yeast and it was lovely. I only used whirlpool @ 70C for 20 minutes and dry hop for 48 hours. Despite this I found after 1 week, it was more bitter than I had expected but this mellowed over the nex...

Re: Oxidised Beer from moving fermentator
Remember that when you cold crash he co2 is drawn back into solution so the air space in the top of the fermenter will suck air back through the airlock.

Re: How to retain a fruity taste & aroma in pale ales?
Back in the 80's I was involved with a brewery and the head brewer would make up a solution of SMB in 2 pints of water and add them to the BBT. The beer was then filtered into this tank at carbonated. He did it to prevent any modest yeast growth which would have made the filtering pointless.

Re: How to retain a fruity taste & aroma in pale ales?
Hymm, I had not read this, https://brulosophy.com/2019/02/11/post-fermentation-oxidation-the-impact-adding-sodium-metabisulfite-at-packaging-has-on-beer-exbeeriment-results/ linked above but he seems to be moving along the the same thinking. I will try his method next of purging a keg with Starsan a...

Re: How to retain a fruity taste & aroma in pale ales?
I have switched to using SMB instead of starsan to flush out my corney keg prior to filling under pressure. I add 3 grams to the keg and fill with water and then flush it with co2. SMB is an Oxygen scavenger so I think it helps. I am interested in trying to lengthen my shelf life of this style too. ...

Re: Mash/Sparge query
Efficiency is not a necessary goal to get hung up on. If your system produces 70% then as a homebrewer be happy and work with that. As you come close to 100% you risk tannins and other not nice things. Leave that to the large commercial brewers.

Re: Thornbridge Colorado Red clone
Not sure if Lidl UK has these https://www.lidl.ie/en/p/craft-beer-awa ... ale/p18502 but as Irish Red's go I think this is a cracker. And good value too.
Re: S04
I’ve had zero problems with it. I’ve been brewing everything from British Golden Ales, Stouts and Best Bitter. I read a post on an American home brew forum where I guy claims he had 16 beers that were undrinkable using S04. I’m wondering if something happened and Fermentis changed the strain? I nev...

Re: Anyone use a FOB detector in their home set up?
Pubs need these particularly when the keg is a good distance from the tap at the bar. It sits just above the keg so that when the keg is empty the fob quickly shuts the line to the bar tap thus making a change to a fresh keg easy and you don't end up with an empty beer line.

Re: Numpty Question
There is no problem with using the extra bit of grain however I would say focus on the beer recipe you want and not fret over a couple of penny's worth of spare grains. Grains are cheap enough so you can afford to use it in another brew or just feed the chickens with it. The chickens will thank you ...

Hymm, not so sure about this one. Donald Trump claims to be from Scotland but I think most Scots would only think of him as a Yankee . The American hops tend to be more floral where as European hops more herbal.
