Re: Quality Lager Kits - no added fermentables ?
I reckon we don't see a variety of 2 can or premium lager kits as they are harder to reliably get a good result : A lager HAS to give a crisp clean flavour or its just not a lager. A pale ale, bitter etc can come in all sorts of hues, weights flavors so what we compare a home brewed one to is far wi...

I've done a few of these with 1kg BKE. Made to 21L and fermented for 2 weeks then siphoned off and dry hopped for a week with 20g cascade and it comes out great!
I found centennial too bitter for dryhopping a light (5%) beer, mabe added too much tho

Re: Driftwood Pale Ale
Cheers Seymour - i knew someone here would be knowledgeable enough to have a crack! I hadn't heard of Newports hops before, been interesting to read up on them. The only thing i could find online before was a grain kit from homebrewstuff.com but it quotes ABV at 6.3% and Bitterness at 72 doent match...

Driftwood Pale Ale
Anyone had a chance to try this in Wetherspoons? Its a dry, hoppy canadian pale that theyve got Banks to brew up a batch of and its been the best beer ive found in a pub for a long time. If any skilled chaps could guess at a recipe its something id very much like to clone ;-) https://www.jdwetherspo...

Re: question about European parts
Try SKF ,a german lot who do everything form car/bike wheel bearings to industrials.
If your current bearings are only lasting 6months then they are either made of cheese or have a harsh (wet?) environment - shielding will give a good improvement.

Re: Go To Kits/Recipes
1.8kg John Bull lager kit plus 1kg BKE makes a great base for dry hopping into light ale
I normally buy a few sets each time Tescos have their 25% off sale (which have been fairly regular over the last year), so it makes a really dependable, and fairly chap, brew.

Re: 60L Fermenter temperature control
I think the key thing here is to reduce heat that the fermenter loses in the first place: Insulate the sides with camping mat etc and the temperature throughout will be far more even.

Re: Fermentor overflow!
Replace the towel with a clean one and give the outside of the fermenter a wipe..
Otherwise that manky towel will become a fly magnet.

I made this once and its honking!
It tastes of really sweet, rough alcohol and that's about it. Tokk me over a year to pour the last demi John down the drain - there was no improvement and I just don't want to get pissed on rank tramp juice

Yup, I use a glass tea light holder. Probably the heaviest, most inert thing I could think of for going in the FV.
