Re: clearing beer

Unfortunately GDPR makes his username unsearchable I think. When it was brought in you had to actively accept the new terms, as his account by then was inactive, it was disabled.

Re: Why is my lager this colour!?

What is the washer made from on the swingtop? If it's silicone it is horribly O2 permeable. You get O2 gradually getting into any bottle though. You can fill bottles fairly full, a few mm should be enough to allow for some thermal expansion. The amount of space that a bottle wand leaves behind is fa...

Selling homebrew recipes for £3 a pop then putting this in the description "Please note, the £3 charge for the Beersmith file and the PDF is just a suggestion. If you want to change the price you pay to £0.00 then please use the coupon code TIGHTARSE at checkout." Some balls on the lad   :...

Are you confusing it with Sharps Doom Bar? That is a poor beer indeed. Proper Job is an excellent beer.

Re: Making Agar Slants (Slopes) - In Pictures

Hanglow is partly right, if you were to follow a standard autoclave protocol, but if you extend the time it is possible to sterilise in a bog standard pressure cooker. Thanks for the correction, I've put off doing this sort of thing before because every time I'd searched for a high pressure cooker ...

Re: Making Agar Slants (Slopes) - In Pictures

Most pressure cookers in the UK won't get to high enough pressure to sterilise unfortunately, so I think that would be your problem

Re: Commercial examples of an Amber West Coast IPA

That was a good one last time I had it! Other DIPAs might be what you want then. Celebration from Sierra Nevada is one perhaps?

The only american red IPA I can think of is Thornbridge Colorado Red, but I just checked and that is only 5.9%

Re: Commercial examples of an Amber West Coast IPA

Three easily obtainable ones that spring to mind are Sierra Nevada Torpedo Magic Rock Cannonball Brewdog Jackhammer Most british takes on west coast IPAs don't tend to be strong enough both in bitterness and malt sweetness I think, so I'd probably call them transatlantic IPAs, although it's been qui...

Re: Brewing advice needed please

If you are adding rubicon to the beer then it would probably be fine, I cant see anything there that would affect the fermentation. It does have some fructose that would ferment, so you could add some at bottling and account for that at the time.

You might have better luck with mango puree though?

Re: Dried yeast lag time

Yes they can take a while. I think they can be a bit sluggish to get going. I wouldn't pitch much higher than 18c, there's no need. If you rehydrate though, be sure to do so in 30c-35c water then attemperate it over the space of about 15 minutes by adding a bit of the cooled wort to it. Yeast like g...

Use citric acid instead as barkeepers friend is just a cleaner, it won't properly passivate SS

Re: Tilt Hydro/Thermometer - anyone use one?

I have an ispindle which is the DIY wifi version and can be bought ready assembled for about £45 or so if you don't want to do it yourself. It is a bit inaccurate due to the same things mentioned ie krausen interfering with the tilt and also needs a strong wifi signal near it, but is handy if you wa...

Re: How to brew an acceptable lager?

Lots of good info there allready, I'll just add that my favourite lagers tend to have an fg of around 1.007/1.008, meaning an apparent attenuation of about 84% or thereabouts. So consider a step mash at appropriate temperatures for your malt to get good attenuation. I always brew ales though and ten...
